I went to a regular SD event and sat in the cheap seats. You’re far away from the ring, but there will be cameras showing the action up close on the overhead screen.
I much prefer the smaller venues, but this will still be a good show. There will be plenty of other kids there, and your kid will have fun.
do they have announcers on the screens ? I think the two most jarring things about seeing wwe live is :1 no announcers and 2 in the old days you didn’t know what was going on if they were doing something backstage and the like or a interview …I think the titantron changed that part tho
I’ve been to one show in the last 40 years, a Smackdown about a year and a half ago. I was about 4 rows behind and to the left (visual right) of the announcers, on the aisle. My vocal cords are damaged, so my throat ran out of steam long before the night did. Had only one issue during the show when the father in front of me decided to put his child on his shoulders and keep moving back and forth, obstructing my view. When I said something to him, his angry response was “he’s just a little kid”. Yup, and you’re an adult who is being a jerk. I understood that the kid couldn’t see and the ushers were being jerks in not wanting him standing on the seats (boo!), but c’mon now. Show some courtesy to the people behind you.
Some guys across the aisle from me were drunken loud mouths (funny though) and about 1/3rd of the way through the show, someone came up to them and told them that word had come “from the booth” that they needed to shut up or be escorted out.
There was one of those “everything goes black and someone appears out of nowhere” moments. It may have looked dark on the screen, but the arena was still dimly lit and we could see the person run out from behind the curtain. I don’t remember who it was.
I left during the last match just to get out of the arena before the crowd. It was a Bork match, so we knew who was winning.
We just went to a Smackdown a month or so ago and have been to every manner of live show you can imagine.
The crowds are perfectly fine, although you might have a slightly more rowdy group because it’s a PPV, but not by a lot because it’s Fastlane. The only time we were by mildly obnoxious people was when we were at Wrestlemania itself, so I really think you’ll be fine. There are TONS of kids in the audience, so there’s a good chance you’ll be by people who have kids too and will probably be by people who at least respect the fact a kid is around.
I’ve found the best place to be is actually facing the titantron. This way, you can guarantee you’ll see who is coming out and you’ll have a good view of the backstage segments when they play it on the big screen. No commentary team in the arena, but let’s be honest, that’s a positive more than a negative.
The most confusing part to me at shows is knowing when you’re in commercial and when you’re live, but at a PPV you won’t have that problem.
I bet you’ll have a lot of fun if you go and even more fun if your kid likes Nak a bunch because there’s just something about being there and seeing your favorites live that’s just really cool.
Lastly, you’d be surprised just how good of seats the nosebleeds can be. We were almost to the top of our arena for both the Royal Rumble and a Smackdown and it didn’t take away from the experience at all.
Only at Wrestlemania were we, like, waaaaayyyyy far back, but that was at a football stadium and very different than an arena.
I think that article is bogus. The article states that the reason Steve Austin became a mainstream star was because of his feud with Mike Tyson. All Tyson did was show up at WM as a Special Enforcer, and he kayfabe knocked out Sean Michaels. There was no feud with Austin. SCSA won the title that night, but he broke out long before then.
Call me ignorant, but I don’t think Stephanie WANTS to be a “mainstream star”. I think she will always have the upper hand when she’s on screen, and will continue to be the authority heel, but she has too much going on outside the ring to actually be put in a match, much less put OVER in the match. Makes more sense for Trips to do it, but even he lets the other guy go over more than he does nowadays (at least in the big spots).
wasn’t the “learn not to kill people” in the ring the problem back in the early 00s with ken shamrock and the first 1/2nd gen ufc guys that went to wwe/wcw?
That’s good news. I was wondering how far away you have to be for that little ring to be just a tiny speck. Looks like I can get fairly decent Fastlane tickets for around 100 a piece, so I’ll likely pull the trigger on them. Thanks everyone for your insights!
Last episode was truly reminiscent of the CW Classic. It had a segment where Spud, I mean Drake, told Drewlak and Tonese that they would no longer be using jokes and gimmicks, so no more PPT presentations and 8 abs. Plus, two long matches with no cheap finishes. Yay!
When you’ve been in the ring 5 years or more won world titles and then wore a weasel suit or kissed your bosses ass on live tv you may bitch publicly about your partner and or about your partner mental failures
I mean did ventura ever bitch in public about a 2 steps away from alltizhimers <sp> sammartino back in the early superstars days ? no because hed wrestled himself and knew that’s what happened when wrestlers get old and Bruno was wrestling its self back in the day …
So to the big mouth as the rock used to say " he needs to shut his mouth and know his role "
I guess he’s gotten to the Jericho stage of his career where he can pick and choose where he works. It’s not a first-time-ever match - they wrestled once or twice back in WCW - but Rey looks as good as he ever has and Jushin can still go, so it oughta be a good match.
From what I read, Rey wanted a part time role in WWE and they weren’t willing to give it to him.
FWIW, I’m on Rey’s side. He’s had way too many knee surgeries. He doesn’t need to be working the grinding WWE schedule. Doing the occasional one-off with WWE and working elsewhere when he feels like it is probably his best option at this time.
He should work at Impact then. I doubt they can afford him, but he only has to work 2 weeks every 3 or 4 months and the occasional PPV. Why more wrestlers don’t do that I’ll never know…
Impact did want to bring Rey in and they were in negotiations. Reports are that things somehow broke down when Konnan got involved. Funny how that seems to keep happening…
