Matt Riddle made his house show debut on Friday facing, who else? NXT’s first boss KO. There was also a bit where Cesaro came back to tag with KO against the Undesputed Era, but I don’t know where or when that happened.
Can’t do many house shows anymore because I officially work weekends now and can’t find the time to. Grrrr.
Other than Cena, does anybody have that kind of influence in WWE? Lesnar? Undertaker?
I think Cody is good at what he does and just agrees to do everything for everyone so they’re giving him a title for it. Austin Ares is kinda the same way. Doesn’t he have, like, 8 titles or something stupid?
It’s actually unfortunate because it makes other wrestlers think they can do the same thing when they can’t. I think Cody is a huge outlier when it comes to control/influence/money etc.
It’s even worse because stupid smarks have this conversation all the time: “omg I can’t believe WWE is totally burying (indie darling). (indy darling) should just quit and go back to ROH or Japan because they’re so awesome and they’ll make so much more money.”
Matt Stryker just dropped a deep bomb of a cultural reference.
The White Rabbit (Impact’s Killer Kross) put on a white silk glove and put his fingers down Joey Ryan’s Joey Ryan’s mouth, like the Mandible Claw Mankind used to have as his finishing hold. Stryker said “Just like Sam Sheppard used to do.” Who?
Sam Sheppard was a pro wrestler for just a year, but he was more (in)famous for being convicted in the bloody murder of his wife, then being released on retrial 10 years later. Dude had heat aplenty when he began his wrestling career.
Literally only saw the end of the Taker/HHH shitshow. The end of that match was the IRL edition of that episode of Family Guy where Herbert fought against the old Nazi guy. Yeesh it was bad.
I heard the rest of the card was actually pretty good, so I’ll have to check it out after work.
Former Champion: Cedric Alexander (1st reign) New Champion: Buddy Murphy (1st reign) Previous Reign Length: 181 days
Buddy Murphy defeated Cedric Alexander at the WWE Super-Show to become the new Cruiserweight Champion. It’s the first time the current incarnation of the Cruiserweight Title has changed hands outside of the United States, and the first time either Cruiserweight Title has won in another country since Juventud Guerrera defeated Nunzio in Sheffield, England on November 22, 2005.
Cedric Alexander’s reign of 181 days began on the WrestleMania 34 pre-show when he defeated Mustafa Ali in a tournament final for the title vacated by Enzo Amore upon his termination from WWE. The length of Alexander’s reign is surpassed only by Neville’s first reign, which lasted 197 days and began at last year’s Royal Rumble.
The longest reign in the history of either Cruiserweight Championship belongs to Gregory Helms’ reign of 385 days, which lasted from Royal Rumble 2006 to No Way Out 2007.
I thought it was a pretty good show. Most of the matches had clean finishes and there weren’t any noteworthy screwups. Commentary was solid and the audience seemed happy with what they were getting.
It seemed that everyone was expecting Miz to win the #1 contender match, then beat AJ and defend against Bryan at 'Mania, so Bryan winning was a surprise. Bryan vs. AJ will probably steal the show at Crown Jewel.
At times, it had the feel of a glorified house show, maybe one or two steps down from the secondary PPVs. One knew there would be little or no closure - maybe Joe/Styles closed. And if they closed Bellas/Rousey versus Riott Squad, who cares? And my (and most of the internet’s) guess is that Miz and Bryan were shafted time-wise.
Loved, absolutely LOVED, that the Iconics won. I thought for sure they would be jobbed in their own backyard. Obviously Vinnie Mac is calling the shots less and less, because he’s always been an asshole like that.
Wasn’t there some time problem with the Saudi Arabia show, where the last match ended less than a minute before the scheduled end time? I have a feeling they told Bryan/Miz to make it quick because they didn’t want a repeat of that.
I like to think the Bella twins and Ronda Rousey secretly hate each other. Their smiles are plastic and they almost-hug, touching each other as little as possible.
/smile Congratulations, champ. You have no breasts and we won’t put you over.
/smile Thanks, skanky princess bitches. You mean absolutely nothing to me.
Thanks - that’s the one I was thinking of. I thought it was strange that time could be a problem, since WWE shows now tend to go “into overtime” ever since they started airing on the network.
The Bellas won’t put Ronda over? To quote Deep Thought, “Who would that inconvenience?” Besides, how much of that is an act to get a Ronda-Nikki feud going? (“Probably about as much as Bret Hart and Shawn Michaels was an act before the Montreal Screwjob, you say?”)
