I don’t have the link because I saw it on Facebook, but apparently a masked CM Punk came back to some random-ass indie show and did a run in and then peaced out.
He’s certainly skinny like CM punk is now, and his GTS looked like shit (as Punk’s always did), but who knows.
Dustin did just announce that he’d asked for and been given his release from WWE and was saying goodbye to the Golddust character. In the goodbye, he talked about looking at other opportunities.
You know, I never really thought about how old Dustin was. I saw him and his dad in a tag team match at a WWF house show (against the Orient Express, I think?) around 1990 or so when I was 7 or 8, but under all that makeup it’s been hard to think of him as actually aging.
Anyone watching “The Shield’s Final Chapter” tonight? It starts in a little over an hour from now.
I didn’t. How else is it going to be booked? SHIELD wins, fans celebrate, plenty of goodbye hugs and handshakes, “please don’t go!” Dean and Renee ride off into the sunset.
I was discussing the 2019-20 TV schedule on another thread, and one of my Incredibly Crazy Ideas hit me:
What are the chances that, instead of the “halftime heat” match on WWE Network during halftime of the Super Bowl, Fox gives the spot immediately following the Super Bowl (which Fox is broadcasting) to the WWE for a one-hour “Super Smackdown Special”? Okay, it’s one week after the Royal Rumble, but maybe WWE can use that to its advantage.
Not a bad idea at all. There’s a part of me that doubts Fox would use that precious time on wrestling, but it would definitely speak to their commitment if they do. Although I doubt there would even BE a halftime heat if the game is on Fox. Fox would want those ratings on the halftime show, so maybe.
Speaking of the schedule, the Fox network CEO now says Smackdown on Friday nights is “for the short-term”. I wonder how happy Vince is with the possibility that the show might end up moving to a different night in, say, January.
Then again, for all I know, it was Vince that asked that the show not stay on Fridays for too long. It can move to Thursdays once the NFL regular season ends.
WOOT! KO turned on New Day! He even did the same move to Xavier Woods that he did to Sami Zayn when he did the Backstab of Doom! All is right in the world again.
While it was just a matter of time, I would have loved KO spending more time ingratiating himself with The New Day. But they are probably setting up the MitB match, and that’s better done early. I don’t think KK was ever meant to have a long title run.
I think it’s too early to assume that Kofi Kingston is just gonna drop the title at MITB. I believe the story they’re telling here is, can Kofi make it on his own with both of his New Day brethren injured? (I think they’re gonna use Owens’ apron powerbomb on Xavier to write the latter out for a short while.)
I don’t see KK making it to SummerSlam. Maybe he leaves MitB intact, but if so I’d put even odds on losing it before Extreme Rules or at Extreme Rules.
My guess is that Kofi beats KO and then gets cashed in on with the MITB either right after the match or on the next SDL. Although, TBH, I’m hoping that Sammy Zayn wins the MITB.
I can’t decide if I like Bray Wyatt’s new angle or not.
On the one hand, he’s playing an burly Pee Wee Herman with evil puppets. It supposedly upset some WWE stockholders that he’s a cult leader who targets children. That elicits a few guffaws, but it’s either a work or WWE stockholders include some truly prudish nannies.
On the other hand, the “cute with sinister undertones” setting doesn’t go far enough. The scary puppets aren’t in a matching setting, and Bray hasn’t talked with them other than to introduce them. Maybe he will in later segments, but the scary puppets need to speak some ghastly puns and tasteless bon mots like the Cryptkeeper. Are they going to be at ringside? Can they be operated remotely? Is Bray going to have moments in the ring where he’s about to do something mean but suddenly reconsiders? That will get old.
I miss the Wyatt family, but Harper’s leaving and Rowan is now DBD’s flunkee. The swamp magic is gone.
I can see the puppets being introduced as wrestlers when he finally gets to the ring. I’m happy he got into better shape. ‘My’ wrestlers don’t all need to be as ripped as Cena, but he and pre-injury KO needed to drop some, which they did and I hope it shows up in their work.
ETA: As of right now, Harpers going nowhere until his contract expires. Doesn’t appear WWE is interested in granting his release.
