Any WWE fans in the audience? (Part 1)

The cuckhold angles WWE’s been fond of lately hopefully won’t become a Chris Benoit/Kevin Sullivan/Woman situation. That didn’t turn out too well.

Lately? Who can forget Miss Elizabeth? Miss Congeniality/Lita (I always much preferred her ECW name)? Though, unlike today, only the “smarks” would know the real behind-the-scenes relationships. Now, even when storylines are teasing a break-up, superstars are tweeting engagement photos (because they’re dumb!).

Wooh, never thought I’d hear Tony Chiavoni on the air again.

This has me nostalgic for NWA Mid-Atlantic. I bet it smells like cigarettes, sweat, salty popcorn and spilled beer in there.

I’m not offended by MJF’s insulting D&D players.

I play Pathfinder. :stuck_out_tongue:

I wonder if old-timers like TC and JR are yelling inside what I’m yelling aloud…

Sell a damn move for more than 3 f’n seconds, dammit!

Yeah, the opening match turned into quite the spot-fest. I thought for sure that Cody’s off-the-top-rope back suplex had won the match.

I enjoyed Dynamite, though, and I’ll be watching.

It definitely felt like watching Nitro back in the day.

AEW crushes NXT in Wednesday night’s TV ratings

Very good for AEW.

Interestingly the current NWA promotion headed by Billy Corgan just implemented a new set similar to the Mid-Atlantic studio setup.

Gonna look for a clip of this.

NXT is still fucking awesome, and I don’t mind watching it on the network a couple days later. Plus, Finn is back where he belongs.

What I worry about however is that some USA execs will want Vince back because he got higher ratings. Viewers like me aren’t seeing their ads.

I wish them luck, but that’s too much wrestling for me, despite my having no life otherwise.

I’m still alive, just not really in the situation to enjoy wrestling as much as before because of time/other annoying things.

That said, the latest batches of shows have been better than usual with the highs being extremely high…and the lows being extremely low. God I hate “romance” angles…

I think I’m going to be free tonight so I might check out smackdown just for the novelty of it. We’ll see how much I watch in the future

A couple of friends dropped by last night. P used to watch wrestling when he was a kid, but T was not a fan. We passed around the pipe and watched Smackdown on Fox.

A few impressions:

Fox definitely used their own crew for graphics and TV production. They had a new entrance that resembles the backdrop used for when the Delorean traveled through time in Back to the Future. Erin Rogers interviewed New Day and seemed to get into the spirit of it.

For the Shane vs KO match, P thought they looked like slobs. He couldn’t understand why KO waited prone in the corner for 5 minutes while Shane climbed the turnbuckle on the other side. I explained that he was the boss’s son and he always gets to do that move in his matches. I also assured them this was the final match in a storyline everybody wanted to be over with. Shane isn’t coming back, right?

They didn’t seem to get Bray Wyatt’s gimmick. I explained that he had changed his angle recently and went into discourse about his former swamp cult leader persona. P mentioned Blackjack Mulligan’s name later and I told him Bray was Blackjack’s grandson. They didn’t see how he could breathe in his mask, but thought it looked cool, like an anime villain.

Brock vs Kofi was over in 2 seconds. I was pissed at how they tossed Kofi aside like trash after building up this match for so long, but P thought it made sense that the big fucker who took steroids won. He thought the smaller guys lost because didn’t take enough steroids. I explained how the influence of Lucha Libre and Japanese wrestling made matches more exciting and fast-paced (and required smaller wrestlers), but he seemed to prefer the “big guy always wins” angle. When Cain Velasquez made his entrance, they seemed dumbfounded, especially since Cain has an hourglass figure and looks about half Brock’s size. I said “It’s a celebrity angle to draw ratings” and that was it. Some things aren’t worth explaining.

I don’t remember much else, aside from saying Charlotte looked like a hot erotic goddess.

impact is on axxs now ? I wonder what that means for their new japan deal…

Heres a story I just saw although its a week old…MSN

Although I wonder if there’s going to be an overload of wrestling like there has been off and on in the past …

One thing I noticed was that WWE got the dregs of the national sponsors. That may change if they put up numbers. Then they can graduate maybe to Little Caesar’s pizza. And Fox once again treated Terry Bradshaw as the Baron Corbin of football announcers. Or was Corbin treated like Bradshaw?

They may keep him off for a while, then suddenly introduce “The Masked Mister S” who is about Shane’s size and does a lot of Shane’s moves - at least until the one match where he is unmasked and it’s not Shane.

Pretty sure Velasquez has a contract with WWE now, so we’ll get months of Cain vs Brock “sightings” until their big match - and I wouldn’t be surprised if it ends up being the main event at the next WrestleMania.

Supposedly it’s the main event of the Saudi show at the end of the month.

Awesome opener, and props to both Banks & Lynch for laying it all on the line. That was inventive and brutal and great fun.

Well, the ending of the main event may have been, hands down, the single dumbest thing I’ve ever seen to a wrestling match.

This is how Vince expects to beat AEW?
