39 digits of pi are sufficient to perform most calculations, because that’s sufficient to calculate the volume of the known universe with a precision of one atom. (Cite.)

I was going to make a butterscotch cream pie with salted carmel chocolate chips I found in the back of the pantry(husband must have bought them) but I didn’t have any milk:) tomorrow maybe.

I planned to make pies today (apple cream cheese pie and chocolate pudding pie), but some friends came over, and we went out to dinner and had pie there instead. Pie sizzling in fajita skillets with ice cream. The three of us each had a different kind of pie–apple, cherry, and peach, a pie-fecta.

Tomorrow will do for my pies.

Just got back from the local Denny’s where I had apple 3.14159 with
ice cream. It was so good that I think I’ll celebrate again on June 28 at 3:18pm
by eating two slices.

According to Wikipedia, the current record for computing PI was set in Oct, 2014 to an astounding 13.3 trillion decimal places. Then again just how accurately do we really need PI computed? Basically, how accurately can anything (length, area, volume, time, mass, etc) be measured?

Not exactly what you asked, but I doubt that computing the first bajillion digits of pi has got anything to do with improving the accuracy of physical measurements. The problem of computing the digits of pi is a benchmark to test the performance of a computer (e.g., how many calculations can it do per second?) and of the numerical algorithm used (e.g., if we are using an infinite series to compute pi, then how fast does it converge to the desired value?). Sort of like a big-dick contest between computer systems.

I went to an event at 9:26 this morning, then found a puzzle cache, and will go to an event at Perkins where we will all eat pie, of course, at 9:26 tonight.

And I’m about as inactive a geocacher as you can find!

Oddly enough, I didn’t get any pie on Pi day. One event was at a donut place and the other was at a BBQ place. There was an event later in the day at a pie place but, with SXSW going on, I wasn’t about to go downtown.

Just went to the library. They had a display of picture books about pie around a sign for Pi day. One of them was a math book that had information about pi.

Pi Day comes around every year. OK, this year we can work the year into the decimal expansion. Sorry, but I can’t feel the excitement.

Really you were right to not feel the excitement. Saturday was 3/14/2015. The real pi day passed long before any of us were born - on March 14,1592.

Now we have to wait for March 1, 4159.
