Anybody doing anything interesting for Samhain?

Not me, I don’t have any plans.

Hopefully living, in good health.

This year, just a bottle of something good, whatever candy the beggers don’t get, and “The Nightmare Before Christmas”.

Oh yeah. And sex. Lots of sex. Can’t go wrong with sex on a pagan holiday, even though I’m more of an agnostic these days.

Got some big plans simmering for next Beltane, though.

For those not in the know…

Pagan Holidays

I’ll be turning twenty-six.

I shall be hosting a party for my teenage daughter and her like minded friends, after which the members of her circle will go do their thing in the back yard and then come in for white hot chocolate (which was a bitch to find this year) and crescent shaped vanilla cookies.

Gods willing, my coven’ll be doin something. We’re kind of spread out over half of Southern California, so getting together can sometimes be a pain.

On the bright side, I managed to get the day off of work without raising any eyebrows.

I’ll be on vacation somewhere between Denver and Cheyenne.

On Samhain I will be fending off The Begging Bastards[sub]TM[/sub], but this weekend I plan on being at Texas Ren Fest.

No better way to celebrate Samhain than by being in a kilt!

(and I promise pictures when I get them developed)

The group I’m in is doing a ritual this coming Saturday, which also happens to be the last day of class for us (we started back in March). I met some cool people there so it’ll be nice to wrap it up this way, and some of us will go on to the next level of study offered by the coven.

feeding kids candy, and then chasing the local hoodlums away from my door with a baseball bat.
I hate Holloween.

It feels kind of stupid when you do it by yourself, but I have a Dumb Supper every year, so I s’pose I will this year, too.

(Dumb Supper meaning the saltless meal eaten in silence in respect for the dead, not a stupid entree and some dippy vegetables)

Didn’t lose any friends this year, but have a very, very sick kitty and a rat on the downhill side of some tumors, so I hope I don’t have to eat those words over the next couple of weeks. I don’t have the day off, but I do have the evening from 10:30 on out and the next day off, so we’ll see how it goes.

About time for a new year anyways. This one’s pretty wore out with icky stuff.

What exactly is Samhain?

The Celtic origin for Halloween. The Celtic New Year was on November 1, and it was believed that at midnight the night before, the line between the living and the dead blurred allowing entities to cross over.

All Saint’s Day (it is generally accepted) was established on November 1st as an attempt to supercede this festival. It didn’t work.
