Turner Classic Movies is doing a huge noir feature in June and July. Running alongside it there’s a free MOOC which anybody can participate in with lectures, discussions, etc; and the nice thing is that they support non-subscribers and offer at least one suggestion for every group of movies that’s available in the public domain.
So anyway, I’ve seen some noir movies but not nearly as many as I’d like to see, and my husband and I are following the online course and watching movies from our various online sources and the library. (Dark Passage? Weird movie. Turns out there’s a reason for the usual balance of medium, wide, and close shots that makes up our film vocabulary. Because without it it’s kind of like playing a very slow video game with a conversation tree.)
I was just curious as to whether anybody else was following along, or would want to and didn’t know about it. They’re also doing one of those Fathom Events local showings of Double Indemnity, etc. I’m just kind of impressed that it’s all free and you aren’t even expected to subscribe to the cable channel.
