Anybody else moving soon?

I just finished moving the last of my things out of my old place and into my temporary living location a few hours ago. I am still in the same neighborhood of Shadyside but I am in a different section now. At the end of July I will be out of here and into my actual place so I don’t really have much time to get comfortable.

Hey olives, if you have any questions about New Brunswick send me a PM or start a thread. I grew up in East Brunswick and I still go back there for breaks and what not.

I know what you mean. It’s amazing how much junk I’ve accumulated in just a few years. I’ve donated quite a few items to Goodwill, but I’m sure I’ll fill many, many trashbags before I leave.

Today is moving day.

As part of this move from the Midwest with its huge houses to Boston with its teen-tiny apartments, we are downsizing from 2800 square feet to about 650. That’s not even the size of one floor of the current house. We’ve given away furniture to family members, sold some things and donated a ton more and I still think we have too much stuff.

The house here sure looks empty, though.

We’re moving August 1, contingent on house inspection (tonight). Actually, I guess it’ll be July 28, but we vacate here August 1. Cutting it close, IMHO. I hate moving a lot. A lot a lot.

I’d love to be. If someone would just buy our fricking house already!

It took us nine months. I feel your pain.

I’m in Boston now, I will never ever drive 1600 miles with three cats and a trailer.

I moved 1 month ago today, from my rented 2BR townhouse to my SO’s owned 2BR townhouse. I’ve moved 7 times since graduating from college 15 years ago, but this time – for the first time – I decided to let the movers pack me. I’d definitely do it again: whenever my SO is ready to sell his house I will suggest that option (if we can afford it; having them pack everything doubles the estimate*).

It was actually a little stressful to see a completely un-packed house up until the night before the move (my place was small enough that they could pack me in the morning, instead of a day or two before the move), but it allowed me to focus on throwing out/giving away as much “junk” as I could. I hadn’t finished going through all of the closets by the day of the move, so I had them just pack everything and I wound up throwing away 2-3 boxes of stuff during the unpacking process.

Of course there was a lot of “I have no idea which box this will be in,” but it wasn’t too bad. They labeled the boxes generally, so they all wound up in the right rooms. And they used a lot more packing paper than I would have, making each box only about 3/4 full with actual stuff, so I got to feel like I was making really good unpacking progress.

The night before the move I brought a bunch of fragile stuff over to my SO’s house, and as I was loading up the trunk of my Mazda RX-8 my neighbor came outside and we started talking. When I told him I was moving he said, “It’s going to take you a lot of trips to move everything in that car!” Then I told him about the movers coming in the morning.

*FYI: This is the second time I’ve used this moving company, and both times the final price was under the estimate. This time they quoted me $750 for the move (all of my furniture, no appliances) and $1500 if I wanted them to pack everything, too, but the final cost was just under $1100. The whole thing only took about 5 hours, too. I can highly recommend Town & Country Movers to anyone in the MD/DC/VA area.
