Anybody ever see Lez Zeppelin?

I just found out about this all-girl Led Zeppelin tribute band.

I’m intrigued. Have any Dopers seen/heard them?

No, but I saw Dred Zeppelin perform once. A reggae band covering Led Zeppelin songs with an Elvis impersonator as lead vocalist - now that’s entertainment.

Yes yes! I saw them a year ago, and they’re coming back to town later this month and I am so getting a ticket. They’re 10 bucks a piece, and it was the best $10 I ever spent.

I’m 26, and never saw Led Zeppelin. I’ve always been a sort-of fan, but a lot of their stuff fell flat for me. Lez Zeppelin has such energy on stage, and exudes the raw sex that I imagine Led Zeppelin must have had as well, that they turned me on (heh) to some Zeppelin tunes I had never really enjoyed from the studio recordings.

Their guitar player’s ok, but no Jimmy Page; some of the solos fell a little flat, but the singer is great and the band as a whole is quite good. Well worth it if they’re in your area.

When I first heard of it, I was disappointed that they were teasing the public with lesbianism the way T.A.T.U. did. (Well, definitely not as exploitative as T.A.T.U.) But then I thought as long as they’re doing songs like “Black Dog,” “Kashmir,” or “Over the Hills and Far Away” they’ve got to be better.

I wonder how they would handle “Dazed and Confused,” on my short list of misogynistic rock songs. That might be interesting.

I thought the OP was a typo and then opened it hoping it wasn’t. Well ain’t that nice.

I saw Led Zep (Day on the green, first day, Oakland july 1977) but I’m thinking Lez Zep might be better than seeing any of the original guys these days.

I saw the original band on my birthday in 1971. Last year I saw a Pearl Jam “tribute” band who were so good I went out and bought two Pearl Jam CDs the next day. I have since seen AC/DC, Green Day and U2 shows. All were excellent substitutes for the real thing.

A friend of mine, who is a great Springsteen fan and has seen him lots of times, once told me that the best Springsteen gig he ever attended was at a roadhouse in the States where the local Springsteen “tribute” band performed. He said it felt more like catching him before he was famous. I know what he means now. Very good fun.

Heard them last week, actually. They did a brief number live in the studio on the Radio Chick’s show. I wasn’t impressed, as… hm. I’ve forgotten the song, but while the music was good, the lead singer just seemed to… be… off. Not holding notes long enough, I think. Lot of downtime between words.
