Anybody interested in playing some Reversi, aka Othello?

Simply for the expedience of it, I’ve been playing Microsoft’s Internet Reversi. One button and you’re ready to go. But it lacks the social aspect, with nothing but a few canned phrases, and when people are losing they punk out, causing me to be frustrated to no end.

To make matters worse, those are about the only games I can get because people see my rookie rating at Yahoo! and won’t take a game that I set up or they kick me from their tables.

I’m looking for a game. If we can get enough people, maybe even a little tournament, if anybody knows where we might host one that won’t cost anything. Hell, we can even play games one at a time and rely on the honor system, set up times and all that. Whatever works.

I’m not limited to Reversi, either. I’m game for Chess or Checkers, and I’m a rookie at Backgammon, having only recently taught myself how to play. Anybody else up for a few rounds? We can work out the details here in this thread if you’re interested.

I’d play any of the above except for chess, as it’s been far too long since I’ve played and I fear embarassing myself.

I’m kind of surprised you picked Reversi since it’s kind of the ugly stepchild of Yahoo Games, but I think it’s a great game. I really like the paradoxical nature of the game (skillful players minimize their discs, but the winner of the game is the one with the most discs). Anyway, I’m always looking for some good competition, but I should warn you that I’m pretty good. So, yeah, I’m in.

I play chess (but I am a professional chess teacher  ).

I have had some chess games on the SDMB, and would offer advice (during or after) if requested.

Sounds good. I like the game because it doesn’t take forever to play but has some excellent strategy elements to it.

I like Reversi, Backgammon and also online Pool.

If anyone wants to play me then feel free to PM
