I don’t have cable just a Roku and the only OTA station I get is PBS. Gosh, maybe no one is performing it live this year… May have to watch an old video recording of it…
I’m sure there will be streaming performances. Here is one from Maryland, scheduled for Saturday.
That’s what I wanna know! Thanks!
Watching the Handel Choir of Baltimore now. This is a rather brilliant “staging” of Messiah in a difficult time for performers. Some of it is pre-recorded with the singers in individual zoom-type windows. But as the chorus sings… I’ll try to describe… when the altos are singing, you see the altos, then the tenors (for example) show up, and the altos disappear, and the sopranos appear… then they all go away and the individual musicians are shown. Very dramatic during “Glory to God,” which they just sang, as the sections come and go during the music until they all disappear and only the musicians are left. Very clever! Talking about making the most of the situation.
(The solos are sung live by masked singers in the presence of masked musicians.)
That was pretty freaking spectacular! I couldn’t help but leap to my feet during the Hallelujah chorus!
I grew up with this piece of music. My mother took me to rehearsals starting when I was about five years old. My late husband and I sang it. I’ve sung it, seen it, and listened to recordings at every stage of my life with many important people in my life. I am full to the brim.
