Anybody regularly eat a "good breakfast"?

Sometimes I wish I had that type of appetite.

I’ve never eaten the “cereal box” breakfast of cereal, fruit, glass of juice and toast, and always wondered who’d have room for all that in the morning.

I’ve started eating breakfast regularly though, and it’s usually oatmeal, cereal or yogurt (the fake kind) with fruit. If there’s more time, then maybe a bagel with eggs.

I guess I have my answer for who has room for that much. Pizzabrat, do you continue to eat large meals throughout the day?

I have learned and applied the exact opposite. Breakfast is the MOST IMPORTANT meal of the day, especially in a weight control context, as it starts your metabolism going. So does exercising, but exercising followed by not eating for a long time is even more damaging to your metabolism, as it sets you up to break down muscle mass as much as it does to burn fat in the long run.

I used to eat twice a day, having just a latte or coffee for breakfast until a very large lunch, then coasting on to a very large dinner, by which time I was very hungry and eager to stuff myself to the craw. Eating about 3000-3500 calories a day like this saw me gain 30 lbs. over 5 years.

I now eat 5 times a day, making sure to eat within the first hour of getting up, and never too much at one meal. I am never very hungry, nor do I ever stuff myself silly. While losing weight I ate 2500 calories a day, not much less net net than before, and also increased my exercising (from zero to something). Doing this saw me lose 50 lbs. over 8 months.

I now am back to eating 3000 calories a day and going walking/running for 10 miles a week (spread out over 3-4 sessions). I have maintained my weight loss since the start of this year.

My personal lesson learned: those who say DO NOT SKIP BREAKFAST are right. You may get away with it if your body lets you, but if you’re trying to lose weight and are skipping breakfast, start by not doing that!

No, and my breakfast isn’t that large either. Every part of it is in small proportions.

It can make things awkward though. I also learned early on if I don’t eat when I am finally hungry I get quite nauseous also (or I get faint before lunch), so I have to make time to eat somewhere before I start my work.

I did a lot of running out the door with a slice of toast in hand as a kid, and lots of learning what I can and cannot handle. (eg I cannot eat for at least an hour after I get up, it has to be light and not too greasy nor can it have lots of dairy). Even now if I wake up to porridge in the morning before work, I can only take 2-3 bites max before I feel ill.

The only times I can think when I’m hungry as soon as waking up on a regular basis is when I’m camping.

I’d agree with this. I more effortlessly maintain my weight when I eat a good breakfast. I was with y’all who feel nauseous eating too soon and used to never eat breakfast. But then I started forcing myself to eat something healthy (usually oatmeal and string cheese) and I got over it. Now I’m starving when I wake up, which is how it should be. The only time I’m not hungry after waking is when I’ve eaten too much the evenign before.

I don’t eat the standard defined “good breakfast,” but I usually eat something. This morning it was a piece of toast with cheese on it and a cup of coffee. Yesterday it was two 100-calorie granola bars. I usually follow it up with a mid-morning snack (typically a cheese stick and fruit). I don’t like to eat a whole lot at a time - particularly not the enormous amount pictured on cereal commercials - because it makes me feel sick and I’m more likely to eat healthfully if I’m not starving by the time lunch rolls around.

I don’t usually eat breakfast per se, due to time constraints. I do try to have a small meal consisting of at least some protein and carbs in the early hours, but it’s rarely “breakfast” foods.

During the school year, however; I always make breakfast for the kids. It is the definition of a Good Breakfast. Typical of breakfast fare in our house during the school year is:

Omelette with bacon & cheddar cheese
Biscuits
Sliced ham
Juice

Of course, the menu varies from day-to-day, but it always includes protein, carbs and fruit. Heavy on the protein for mental function throughout the day.

Every day! Though the pictures on the back of cereal boxes aren’t always my idea of a healthy breakfast - depends on the cereal

It varies, but I usually eat breakfast foods - an egg plus a bowl of cereal (healthy stuff w/ lots of fiber) and fruit, milk or yogurt, or some hot cereal, sometimes an omlette. Plus coffee, of course.

I find that if I don’t eat breakfast, I’m much hungrier the rest of the day. By dinner time I’m scarfing down whatever is handy. I like to eat something every few hours in general.

I’m always hungry in the morning anyway, and dinner tends to be my smallest meal of the day.

I got into the habit of eating a “good” breakfast when Razorette and I went on Weight Watchers. I discovered that by piling on “points” early in the day, I staved off hunger better the rest of the day. Typically, I eat two eggs, two slices of ham (lower in fat and calories than you’d think) and two slices of whole-wheat toast with sugarless preserves. It’s a high-protein, 12-point breakfast that keeps me rolling all morning. Light lunch, healthful supper (fish or chicken, usually) and I’ve lost over 20 pounds in four months.

You can have too much of a good thing. Last weekend the Sunday Times reported about a man who took advantage of Premier Travel Inn’s “eat as much as you like for £7.50” offer. His breakfast consisted of 30 sausages, 20 rashers of bacon, 15 fried eggs and 3 tins of baked beans.

Yup. Me.

Every morning: 12 - 16 ounces of non-fat plain yogurt topped with spoon-sized shredded wheat and raisins. 8 oz. of orange juice on the side. So I can take my vitamins.

I’ll often have a healthy breakfast - OJ, coffee (lots, w/ skim and a little splenda), 2 egg whites, cheddar (not much) and tomato on wheat toast. I find getting some fiber and protein in me helps me concentrate and get through the morning.

I applaud people who can eat breakfast, and those who eat healthy. Grapefruit, bran cereal, orange juice, oatmeal… that is what i eat for lunch. Breakfast is a boogeyman for me, because I cannoit deal with it.

While I’d rather eat a bowl of Froot Loops, in fact I eat this every morning:

One egg over easy or scrambled Egg Beaters
One slice of high-fiber, no-flour, whole grain toast
Coffee with half and half

Most mornings I add something like
1/4 cup plain yogurt
berries or an apple
a few nuts

On a weekend I might add something like
2 slices of turkey bacon

If I eat just high-glycemic carbs not only does it throw my blood sugar off, it also makes me ravenous by mid-morning

When you say “no-flour,” do you mean that there’s no flour whatsoever in the dough? Like the sprouted grain breads? I’m trying to wrap my head around how someone would make bread without it, even whole wheat flour, which if used incorrectly can make bread look and taste like building supplies. Does flourless bread taste good? I keep envisioning a brick of wheat.

I usually skip breakfast, but I used to eat a bowl of cereal. Now about all I do is drink a few swallows of soda and I’m out the door.

I generally have a fairly good breakfast. I mash up a ripe banana and cook myself a big bowl of oatmeal with the banana mixed in, then toss in a few tablespoons of sunflower seeds and some fresh blueberries. Top it off with a bit of maple syrup and I’m good to go. Not a big fan of coffee or juice and I don’t drink milk, so I generally just have water or maybe some tea with it.

Of course, back when I was running my family’s restaurant I’d often have a spectacular breakfast every morning, simply by virtue of being in that kitchen so early in the morning. Huevos rancheros were pretty typical or sometimes I’d have two pancakes, some bacon, two over easy eggs, and country gravy. Yes, all mixed together.

I’ve lost thirty-five pounds since the restaurant closed and I went vegan, so I think I’ll stick with my oatmeal.

I’ve had sprouted grain bread a few times at my dad’s place, and it’s fantastic - so long as you like a rich, chewy, flavorful bread.

I love breakfast! I typically eat two eggs (either scrambled with cheese or over-hard), meat of some type (left over from the weekend breakfast), and a piece of toast. If I eat a piece of fruit, I drink a glass of milk. If I eat yogurt (vanilla only), I drink juice. I know it sounds like a ton, but I’m currently nursing and pregnant.
