I loved this show! It was a laugh a minute…the characters were just SO weird! I always liked Uncle fester…he was able tomake a lightbulb light by insering it into his mouth. And the butler (Lurch)-he was funny in his own quiet way.
Anyway, remember the front door bell? (It sounded like a foghorn).I’d really like to have a doorbell like that…anybody know if an electronic doorbell can be reprogrammed tosound like that one!
The ADDAMS FAMILY is immortal!
Say it in French. You know how I love to hear you speak French!
The show was good until someone decided I looked like Pugsley.
I hated that nickname.
yeah, I love that show. Too bad no one picked it up after Fox Family Channel ended. I really liked the guy from Moonlighting as Gomez.
What?!?!?
What was the deal with Lurch, anyway? Was he a zombie?
And how was cousin Itt related to the family?
… cousin?
I didn’t realise until a freak search on IMDB that John “Gomez Addams” Astin is Sean “Samwise Gamgee*” Astin’s dad.
*For some reason my subconcious kept wanting me to write McGee instead.
John Astin. I fell in love with Gomez Addams and followed his entire career. Those eyes. I loved him on Night Court.
John Astin is actually not Sean Astin biological father. The whole story is so bizarre it could only happen in Holllywood. Mother Patty Duke claimed she was having an affair with the then-married John and conceived Sean. In a panic, she married a man she had only known for a few days, Michael Tell, and had the marriage annulled 12 days later on the basis on non-consummation. She was also having an affair with 17 year old Desi Arnez Jr. at the time. She later married John, and he adopted Sean. They had another son together, actor Mackenzie Astin.
Recent genetic testing has revealed Sean’s true father to be (ta!da!) Michael Tell. Not consummated?
Gomez and Morticia had the perfect relationship. swoon When I was in high school I planned on living like that when I grew up.
I think my favorite character is Lurch. You have to like a guy whose expression can change from respectful servitude to contempt without moving a muscle. At least, it always seemed that way to me when he was dealing with the various guests at the Addams mansion.
Gomez is cool too. Nobody has more style then him. If I ever won a billion dollars, I’d spend the rest of my life trying to be half as cool as he is (it’d have to be a billon dollars though. You can’t have as much panache as Gomez with any less).
Chas Addams, the creator, was seriously twisted. His illustrations - which appeared in The New Yorker were often quite funny but always weird. He grew up in the standard suburban community of Westfield, New Jersey and seemed to have a normal childhood. His take on the Mother Goose stories is quite odd.
“whoooop whoooop” Ah! Mail’s in!" Is my favorite thing about tha show. I used a wav file for my Outlook at work for a long time. I also like blown up trains. And I like when Gomez would track in investments on the ticker tape, and say “Ah, I just made $100,000! Ah, I just lost $100,000!”
And most everything else about the show too.
And Uncle Fester’s headache remedy - a huge vise for his head.
I loved the show from when it first aired. My favorite moment was Morticia’s “Do you mind if I smoke?”
Thing was great, too. I don’t think the later movies got him right, though – he always seemed to me to be a creature made up of many hands that lived in the walls of the mansion, not a disembodied hand.
I loved Charles Addams’s cartoon even before the series. They were masterpieces of macabre subtlety. Only a handful featured the family, BTW.
There also was a great little collection of Addams family stories tied in with the series. I keep thinking the author was Jack Sharkey, but may have been the inferior novelization. It was a yellow paperback and was even wierder than the TV show.
love the addams family, i have all the videos of the tv series.
you aren’t truely living unless you have a butler like lurch. what a guy.
i am amazed that he was also thing and was able to fold himself under tables and whatnots. i believe he holds the title as tallest actor in series tv.
i want lurch!!!
I think Lurch was some sort of Frankenstein’s monster.
I liked the movie, too. Not great, but they did a good job of capturing the feel of both the TV show and the cartoons that inspired it.
Actually, under the circumstances, I think the better term is UNDEAD.
I loved the TV show when it was first on. I also liked the movies, and was somewhat bummed when Raul Julia died and couldn’t play the character anymore.
One question I never did think about as a kid, what was the source of the Addam’s family wealth? I mean, they were rolling in it, where did it come from?
There is no Highlander 2.
There is no Alien[sup]3[/sup].
There is no Addams Family Reunion.
When I was a kid I wanted to live in the Addams Family house. I liked it when Gomez blew up his train, I liked the secret passages, and I liked the playroom. Heck, I still want to live in the Addams Family house!
I always figured it was old money supplimented by Gomez’s investments.
Considering the number of odd stuffed creatures in the house, possibly one of their ancestors was a famous explorer.
Remember when the family did “moon bathing”-they would be sitting out under the full moon(Gomez in a 19th-century striped bathing costume)! They did it to make theirmskin “paler”! What a laugh!
