I’ve got this burning question that’s troubling me for years now…
About 15 years go there was a WWI era PC game in which your base was a big zeppelin airship. There was a map room where you could see the whole land and see which cities are controlled by which base, and you could choose where to conquer next.
The missions were to destroy an airfield, or other zeppelins, and sometimes you had to protect your zeppelin bas from other planes.
At the end of missions you had to “land” back on the zeppelin by attaching a hook to it and hanging your plane to the belly of the zeppelin…
Does ANYONE remember what the game was called? Any of this sound familliar?
I’ve never heard of it but does Air Power: Battle in the Skies sound familiar? It’s got zeppelins and was released in 1996, so the time frame is correct.
OMG! This is it!
How the hell did you find it so fast? I’ve been googling everything I could think of like airships, zeppelins, dos games, simulators… you name it!
The scenario you described sounded vaguely like the USS Macon, the famous airship that was lost off the coast of Big Sur. It famously had a hanger for aircraft that landed by capturing a hook. I took a look at the Wikipedia entry to refamiliarize myself and then I think I GISed “Zeppelin PC Game” or something like that. There’s a newer one that was obviously not the game you described and then I refined my search in some fashion I don’t remember (maybe adding airplane?) and then got multiple hits on that particular game.
Reported.
This is the Dope, man. We excel at answering obscure pop-culture questions. I’ve seen questions answered in minutes with as few clues as…
“I remember reading something when I was a kid (mid-80s) about a man in a spacesuit who was running out of oxygen. It was in a magazine so it was likely a recent story. Can anybody help?”
Bam! 20 minutes later, the right answer.
We’re brilliant that way, you see…
Well, the other people are. Me, not so much.
What does reported mean?
Anyway, Thanks a million Darryl!
“Reported” means that the thread or post was reported to a moderator.
What was reported was that there was an apparent advertisement as one of the posts, which is a no-no.
I guess it was deleted, right? because I didn’t see any advertisement…
Thought it was something that I did lol.
