Myself and Mrs. Malice are hooking up with my college roommate and his g.f. for a week there over the holidays. Gonna stay in Cabarete… Never been, but looking forward to it.
My last trip there was over a year ago, and the only places I’ve been are Santo Domingo and Puerto Plata.
Puerto Plata is almost strictly a resort town (beaches, bars and golf courses).
Santo Domingo is a lot of fun. I had one of the best meals of my life there in “Columbus square” (?) - not sure of the name. We sat outside on the terrace and had a wonderful meal as we watched the sun set.
Try the Brugal Extra Viejo rum. Inexpensive and almost criminally smooth.
I’ve been to Puerto Plata twice, although it’s been several years.
I found the people there quite friendly and the lizards are really cool.
