Well…I’m not quite sure…I mean, I kind of get the gist of what that saying might be saying in a kind of impressionistic way, so I guess I could say, yes…but, it’s possible it is really saying the exact opposite of what I think its saying…so, maybe?
Believe me, I personally don’t have a problem with una. This ain’t my fight. It’s just that when people come out with “But I worked hard!”, I automatically think “Do you think you’re the only one?”
Anyway, I seriously do not have a problem with una, but the post I quoted from her arched my eyebrow.

And got extremely lucky. Multiple times, I’d imagine.
For example: No major congenital disorders. No major acquired disorders. Very likely no major history of parental abuse/neglect/etc. No major accidents such as being hit by a drunk driver and left mentally negligible. And so on.
People don’t like to think of how lucky they had to have been to even be as well-off as they are.
But that’s not really the issue. If she’s succesful, good for her. I congratulate her. But to go into a thread about somebody who (hypothetically) desperately needs a job and say “Well I wouldn’t know, and don’t need to, because I’m so rich and succesful”, is not only a thread shit, it’s a shitty, unnecessary, bitchy thing to do.
You make a good point. I should say that she has, from what I can tell, done really well with the skills that she has.
billfish678, yup, we’ve taken different positions in debates. Do you also believe that I insulted you horribly in those debates and have since waged a campaign of insults and personal slurs against you? Do you believe that I go around misrepresenting what you say?
Again, I have no hate on Una, just irritation that she has a delusion about me of having a campaign against her. Her knowledge about her area is deep. This thread, with my admitting that I have been trying to avoid her and why, and my comment in the IMHO thread linked to, are the worst things I think I have ever said about her.
And I am tired of her saying that about me. Telling Una that she is wrong is not hating on her and not a campaign against her.

I guess my point was if I often disagree with you (and have no running beef with Una) and still agree with you that Una was a bit over the top in that job thread my opinion is probably a bit less biased than if I was your bestest friend and or I had some serious issues with Una (which I most certainly don’t).
Again, I think Una was over the top in that one. But then again everyone royally screws up once in awhile too…
Ok, but surely it deserves a mention that Una hasn’t solicited funds for years, has in the past turned down funds for the board’s upkeep, and has covered the costs of it with Fierra for years. She posted spreadsheets for a while: IIRC the totals summed to about $1000/yr. The board is now on a separate server: I have no idea what that costs - probably/possibly less. Also all contributions were anonymous as they were donated through an intermediary.
What happened was unfortunate, but I thought that some of the facts needed to be rounded out.

You wrote Una a check that you felt you couldn’t afford because she mentioned that the cost of the board might be more than she wanted or could continue. She didn’t solicit donations, but you made one. She cashed the check. You have the balls to come on here years later and whine about it because it wouldn’t have even been one car payment to cover the check you willingly wrote? And to top it off you end your whinefest with the idea that YOU like to be able to SLEEP at night unlike that miserly ol Una who cashed your check? Jaysus Christmas, you need to get a grip on yourself.

Also, I don’t think it’s very bitchy to post in a HYPOTHETICAL job searching thread that she doesn’t need a job. If it were a thread by a real poster, with real problems, it would be bitchy. But in a hypothetical thread, no.

Having only a passing notice of Una, I will admit that she seems like a nutcase when it comes to guns. At least from my vague recollections.

As to the OP, she’s certainly a complete piece of shit if you measure her only by that post. Una may think she’s a hard worker, but there are any number of waitresses that work harder than she does. Shit, any number of migrant fruit pickers could give a days work that would leave her dead or dying. That doesn’t make them better people, or more worthy of respect. Neither does whatever job Una is engaged in at the moment. And preening like a peacock about all those job offers *you *have, in the middle of the recovery of the hugest recession in three generations is pretty shitty form.

IIRC the solicitations for funds stopped around the time Una started talking about how she made loads and loads of money. I think she realized that after she started on that tack it was hard to elicit money from board members, a lot of whom were going through financial hardships far worse than anything I ever dealt with.
Firstly, I never said I couldn’t afford it. I’m not in the habit of making donations I can’t afford.
Secondly, if she actually did explicitly solicit donations I wouldn’t have been upset about it. As I said, if she stepped forward and said, “Look, this board costs money, and I’d like to ask if posters can pay their fair share,” I never would have had a problem with things. It was her implication that she couldn’t afford to pay for the board and that the future of the board was in jeopardy that bothered me…after it came out that the future of the board was never in jeopardy and that she could have always easily afforded to pay for the board. (And if she “didn’t solicit donations” why didn’t she just send back everyone’s donations? Are you in the habit of cashing checks you haven’t earned or asked for?)
Thirdly, I’m saying this now, to be honest, because of people like you Sleeps. You weren’t there when this happened and have no idea what was going on, but you have no problem defending her. I really don’t understand why, when the slightest criticism of Una appears, she has many people popping up to say “But Una is so smart and helpful and successful!” Aren’t there a lot of posters like that here, though? And what do those things have to do with her falsely accusing DSeid of waging a “campaign of slurs and insults” against her, or taking cash under false pretenses? Are “smart, helpful, and successful” people incapable of doing those things? Should we give a pass to behavior like that because of other, totally unrelated reasons?
Lastly, it honestly doesn’t matter whether it was six years ago or six days ago. I shut up about it for a long time and pretty much forgot about it all until this thread. I’ve noticed that anybody who speaks the slightest ill about Una gets accused of having some kind of longstanding conspiracy against her, and is often claimed to be in cahoots with unnamed “trolls” on Boards Which Shall Not Be Named. Frankly, I don’t care about anybody enough on this board or any other board to put in that kind of effort. All I know is that if it hadn’t been for that incident, I’d probably still be happily posting on the UnaBoard, and I’d probably be defending her just like you are now. But it did happen, and I feel I have a right to talk about it.
Oh yes, because it’ is ALL over the news that not only are MOST employers asking for Facebook log-in details they are now digging deeper to asking for log-in details and passwords for smallish message boards that most people haven’t heard of. So right you are!
