Anyone else have mini-phobias?

Thought of another one:

Drawing blood from a vein. :::shudders::: They can jab my fingers and squeeze out all the blood they want, but IV’s and blood drawn from veins are the stuff of nightmares.

Doesn’t hurt any more than a regular shot, so this makes no sense, but it terrifies me out of all proportion.

Holey moley, maybe I am neurotic!

I take it you don’t give blood?
Hm. Come to think of it, is it arterial or venous blood when you donate? Maybe you’re ok.

I don’t think you have to worry too much about Kuru. As long you don’t eat the brains of someone who had the disease, you don’t stand much chance of catching it. It is believed that it is related to Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease and bovine spongiform encephalopathy (mad cow disease). These diseases seem to only to be communicable through the eating of the flesh, especially the brain, of something (or someone ;)) who had the the disease.

Put me down for a fear of heights. Although planes don’t bother me. In fact, I’m a private pilot and when I’m flying I don’t think about how high I am once. But if I’m on a cliff or a ledge without a railing I won’t go near the edge.

Ugh, this is a “me, too” post but I have to add my vote that needles are evil. I know they don’t hurt that much, but the mere thought of a needle or I.V. makes me sick to my stomach.

I was in the hospital recently, and one of the residents was trying to take blood to do a “blood gas” test (whatever that is). I told him I was nervous about needles, and he replied “there’s nothing to be afraid of, it’s just a needle.” Gee, I guess that’s why he’s a doctor and I’m not. He then stabbed me with the needle about four times, because he couldn’t find a vein. He then started muttering things like “god dammit, where’s the vein? Why won’t this freaking thing work?” (nice bedside manner, Doc.) After the fourth stab, I asked him to stop because I felt sick. He went to stab me a fifth time and I threw up on his shoes. Then he decided I didn’t really need the blood gas test after all. Actually, at that point, I refused the test completely, but I think he was happy to agree with me.

All the MDs on the SMDB are probably thinking that I’m an evil patient. I didn’t mean to get sick, it just happens.

Vein, artery, it’s a small, blue thing in my arm they’re trying to punch–repeatedly. FWIW, seems I have small, slippery veins–or whatever. It’s never taken less than 2 tries to find a gusher. The times I have to have IV’s they’ve used the backs of my hands.

Ish, I’m grossing myself out.

I have given blood, but it’s pretty traumatic.

Wimp,

Well, since neither I nor my girlfriend own a car, this phobia hasn’t affected me too much, but I absolutely cannot receive oral sex in a car (stationary or moving). This comes from having read The World According to Garp.

My other little phobia is that I’ll push someone in front of an approaching train while I’m waiting on the station platform. I haven’t acted on this too often, though.
