Anyone else have this kind of insomnia?

Lately, I haven’t been sleeping well. I’ve always been plagued by insomnia, but this time it is different.

I will get sleepy and go to bed. I’ll start to drift off and just as I’m falling asleep I pop awake. It is like I’m falling awake. Once I’m awake, I’m fully awake; I can’t seem to turn my brain off and I usually just get up and right emails or read for another hour or so.

I’m running on like 4 hours of sleep a night and in the morning, I’m not as groggy as I would expect to be. I have low energy during the day, but I’m not completely wiped out. I tried to limit my coffee intake, especially after noon, but that hasn’t helped.

Anyone else have this? How long can I continue like this? Does it mean I’m nuts?

How old are you? When I was of age to be in college but yet languishing around, I found that going to school helped give my mind “something to chew on” thus better sleep.

Outside of that there are many reasons for insomnia. Give us some data !

That happens to me when I am stressed.

I’m in my 30s. I’m in Baghdad working on an aid project, but I’ve spent plenty of time here and it’s never affected my sleep before.

My diet is really off becaust the food has been terrible lately so I thought that might be part of it. I’m also really missing my wife these days (I have home leave coming up so it’s a little more pronounced than usual).

I’ve always been a night owl and if I had my way, I’d stay up until 12.30 or so and go to work around 9.30, but I don’t get to run the world (much to the world’s loss). I try to shoot for an 11pm bed time with a half an hour for reading/drifting off, but it just doesn’t work. I get good and sleepy, just start to drift off and then it’s like someone flips the awake switch in my head.
