I’m using iTunes 6.0.2, on OS 10.3.9, and I’m having trouble with podcast episodes returning from the dead.
My podcast preferences are set to check for updates manually, download the most recent episode, and keep all unplayed episodes.
So the way it works is that I hit the Update Button, and iTunes calls the podcast servers to add newly available episodes to my list and download the newest un-listened-to episode for each podcast. Then iTunes deletes the episodes I’ve finished listening to.
The problem is that, in addition to listing new episodes, for some reason iTunes is also adding old episodes that I listened to months ago. It’s not just listing all the old episodes, just a weird random assortment. I delete them, but the next time I update, a new bunch of old episodes are back. In the past, I’ve deleted episodes that I didn’t want to listen to, and they normally don’t come back.
It’s getting really annoying. For podcasts I’m caught up on, it’s no big deal; I just delete everything but the current episode. But for podcasts where I’m working through back-issues, as it were, I actually have to go through and puzzle out from the show description whether I’ve listened to each one. I’ve started keeping lists in a text file, but it’s stupid. I shouldn’t have to, damnit.
Anyone else having this problem? Is it a problem with my iTunes, or with the podcast servers? Anyone know where iTunes keeps podcast listsings, and whether those are in human readable format?
