Well, thus far onyl two Fallout games actually had that, out of 4 main-line games (counting new Vegas), and 6 if you count the spin-offs. Plus, it’s kinda a tired premise, given that it’s been quite some time for thsoe Vasults to styill be isolated in the game-world. I understand why you like it though, and I agree with your reasoning, if not your conclusions.
I don’t think any game requires to be connected to steam to work. I mean, obviously if you were trying to get your save games off the steam cloud you’d need to be connected, but just to play, no.
Anyway, I’m cautiously optimistic. Some of the guys who worked on Fallout 2 are working on this project. Bethesda is good at creating interesting worlds, but they aren’t really good at the role playing part of the games - they end up being pretty shallow, the dialogue isn’t that interesting, etc.
Although I don’t think any RPG is ever going to be as good as stuff like Fallout 2 and Planescape Torment and all that in the dialogue system ever again - the unfortunate insistence that all dialogue be voice acted puts a practical limit on the number of options. Back in the text dialogue days you could have dozens of ways to go through a conversation, now it’s just a few.
Given their track record on things like Daggerfall, that isn’t exactly comforting news, although I’m sure it will be great.
Is anyone paying attention to the preorder bonuses? Here. I’m sure they’re mostly a gimmick, and if you’re getting the PC version (you are, right??) then there will probably be a mod to get everything. It’s hard to say what’s good by description alone, but Gamestop’s looks the least interesting to. I went with Steam mostly for convenience.
For me, it’d be a toss-up between the GameStop Vault 13 pack (for the nostalgia) and Steam’s Caravaner pack (the black leather was always my favorite looking armor in the series). I’ll probably go with Steam for the convenience.
Niice. That actually addresses an issue I had with Fallout 3. Considering it’s been 200 years since the fallout, the settlements and technology levels are awfully…bad. I suppose there’s a case to be made that between raiders and super mutants, sane humans couldn’t band together easily, but I look around and it seems like the halfassed existence everyone lived in, even the people in Rivet City, is more appropriate for 20 years after, not 200. New Vegas paints a picture of people who’ve gotten their shit together.
Devs have confirmed that The Courier doesn’t have amnesia, despite being shot two times in the head - although the background of The Courier is apparently left deliberate vague. All we know so far is that he/she was taking the package to New Vegas from California.
Pre-ordered this bad-boy, for PC - mods should take care of any immediate issues, although it’s the exact same engine as Fallout 3 so I can’t see Obsidian screwing anything up too badly.
Will be playing on Hardcore the first time, very intriguing - interested to see how much more immersive it’ll make the gameplay. The new perks look great, although I’m a little disappointed that there’s only ten traits.
Rather annoyed that I have to wait until Friday when all you yanks will have dissected it and posted spoilers all over the internet…
The pre-order download is available…loaded it this morning. Man, really wish they had released it on Friday as I’d love to be playing over the weekend. Ah well…anyone know what time on Tuesday the game will become unlocked? If it’s early then maybe I’ll be ‘sick’ that day…I’m starting to feel like I’ve got a really nasty cold coming on…cough cough…
Anyone else planned out their character for this one? I know, I’ve too much time on my hands.
I’m gonna go with the same build as my main Fallout 3 guy. Guns (Small Guns and Big Guns now gone, divided between Guns and Energy Weapons) Medicine and Repair as tagged skills.
My SPECIAL was 5, 5, 5, 5, 8, 7, 5 in Fallout 3…but I wonder in NV whether to alter this a bit for Better Criticals - although Intense Training returns, and apparently there’s an ‘implant’ system whereby you can pay a faction (I think the Followers of the Apocalypse) a large amount of money to increase you attributes and/or resistances.
Unless it’s changed it’s being released on the 19th. Not sure what time the Steam version will unlock though. I’m hoping it’s early.
Small guns, repair and lockpick are usually the ones I start with…the rest I fill in with Perks or later levels. Sneak is a great skill, barter helps quite a bit as well, big guns and energy weapons I generally get later in the game (when you start getting significant numbers of those types of weapons).
