This is the first game for which I’m buying the Collector’s Edition. Not that I’m looking forward to this game more than any other, but…the Collector’s Edition has a set of special playing cards. Since I’ve been collecting playing cards since I was a teenager and especially love themed cards, they might as well have been offering a free bag of crack.
I work for Bethesda (well, okay, technically the company is ZeniMax), and we get our free copy tomorrow afternoon! I’m pretty excited.
::Snipes Lightnin’ through the window and takes his copy::
Are you making that shot from the mouth of a large dinosaur, though?? If not then no copy for joo!
I can’t believe the bad luck. No chance of calling in sick tomorrow…too many meetings I have to attend. And Wednesday is looking bad too! Sheesh…this work thingy is just killing me!

Well, looks like Microsoft broke out the blow + hookers truck for Bethesda.
They just announced that the first piece of DLC will be xbox gold live exclusive. No PC and no PS3. They specifically pointed out the same isn’t being said about other possible DLC.
I imagine it will come out for PS3 and PC at some point though, but this still sucks.
Man I am still deciding. This is a game I will definitely get. But should I wait until some of the frustrating bugs and may a content pack or too are out. I’ve been wanting to get NHL 11 real bad too, but that got pushed out of last months budget when I decided to go with civ5. (Which I haven’t had anywhere near enough time I to play as I would have liked anyway)
Maybe it’s to make up for the fact that there is a strong modding community and probably already a bunch of mods ready to roll for the PC once the game ships? I wouldn’t be surprised if a lot of the mods from FO3 are re-worked to FONV within a week of the game shipping.
It still sucks, and I don’t see the economic reasons to hold back DLC’s from the other communities.

Live Gold, or just Live? I’m going to be a bit irritated if I finally have to cave in and pay for a Gold subscription just so that I have the privilege of paying for a DLC…
Nope. You can just download them if you have your console online regardless of your subscription.
Yep xbox live only, my bad.
Woot!
The time updated on Steam. It now says 3 am Eastern, midnight Pacific.
Gonna have my wife wake me up extra early tomorrow.
If it’s like all of the other first-DLCs, the assets are already in the game. Someone will just extract them and mod them into the PC version in two minutes.
BTW, if I’m reading this page on Steam Store correctly, it looks like the question of whether or not the Steam Cloud will be available for saving configuration and saved games is: yes. It will. That’s good news for me at least, since it will allow me to go back and forth between my computer at home and my traveling laptop, without having to manually copy and paste the saved games back and forth.
According to Steam Store it’s T-Minus 8 hours to launch (in the States anyway), so probably won’t be able to play anything more than maybe the set up tonight and possibly watch the intro. I’m playing with meeting times and such in the morning, but don’t see how I could stay up all night to play and still be able to work 8 hours tomorrow, curse the luck!

Dammit, I was gonna stay up to start it at midnight tonight EST, but 3:00am ain’t gonna fly.
Just finished loading on Steam… I may well stay up to see the sunrise.
Bah, anyone else remember when Steam games didn’t have a bunch of install crap and they just worked?
I’m up! I’m up already! Push play… ::snore:: Wha? What? Oh, hardcore mode on.
Tried to at least load the game before I left for work this morning. Steam suggested I defrag first, which is odd because the first thing I did when I added a new hard drive was transfer my Steam files. New Vegas somehow got installed as something like 1 billion percent fragmented.
My impressions so far (only about an hour or so of gameplay): The graphics engine: Runs a lot smoother than original Fallout 3. I believe they’re takign advanatage of multiple CPU cores and it shows in their texture/objects loading. The game looks a lot better overall too. Gone is the greenish fog that permeated the DC wasteland. If you’ve seen the Fellout mod, New Vegas looks a lot like that: blue skies, bright harsh sunlight, more natural colors, though there is still plenty of brown about. The nights are still way too bright though, IMHO.
Texture detail itself is way better than Fallout 3. I was surprised to clearly see the rust on a robot, and the nuance and more natural look of people’s skin and clothing. Object and landscape textures also look a lot more high resolution, though maybe not up to par to some of the texture mods of Fallout 3, they are tons better than the original ones.
Finally, the voice acting so far has been top notch, and the story is very interesting. I’ve got three mysteries already I really want an answer to.
Since the game involves dens of gambling, I’m curious whether they’ve arranged for it to be advantageous to have a high Luck. I mean, I traditionally treat Luck as a bash-stat in Fallout. I find I can live with the consequences. But the idea of a character of prodigious luck walking into New Vegas and shaking up the town appeals to me.
Given that there’s an achievement for getting banned from all the casinos in the game, I think they did.
