I’ve always been told it’s a “pot thing”. Since I don’t “smoke”, I can’t get messed up and enjoy it that way.
While I get the “stupidly brilliant” tone of the show it’s not my cup of tea. Mostly the perky tone and voices of SBSP and the squirrel girl grate on my nerves.
But Untalkative Bunny sounds like something I’d like to see.
a piece of advice to those that dont “get it”.why dont you try to actually watch it without any expectations of being whisked away or what not. its ok, really, it isnt the funniest show on, but its funny none the less…i mean, come on people, i bet you schmucks watch all the reality shows on and love em…baaa…
I used to get it, but I recently dropped both Nickelodeon and Cartoon Network (as well as a number of other channels) as a budget measure. Pure-blooded Scotsmen have told me I’m too frugal.
Yes!!! That’s my favorite episode. I think I hurt something laughing at that one.
Also the one where Patrick and Spongebob find the abandoned baby scallop and decide to raise it. They fight over who is going to be the “Mommy” and Spongebob says, “But Partick, you CAN’T be the mommy, you don’t wear a shirt!”
Then Patrick goes off to “work” every morning while Spongebob stays home with the scallop and Patrick comes home later and later each night until one night he comes home with a lampshade on his head and…
At this point, there’s almost a sense of peer pressure to like Spongebon Squarepants, which, perhaps not so cooincidentally, is initialed SS. Can concentration camps forcing non-viewers to animate the show be far behind? I think we all know deep down what the answer is.
And so, to conclude my post, I’d like to say viva le Spongebob, viva le Revolution!
Nobody’s mentioned Mermaidman and Barnacle Boy. The whole idea of retired superheros just cracked me up … and then they kept them in the story, having them come back and fight crime. Of course it’s even more fun when you know Ernest Borgnine and Tim Conway do the voices. Charles Nelson Reilly does the voice of one of the nemesises, the Dirty Bubble. Har har!
Also very amusing to me is the opening credits, where one of the writers is listed as Mr. Johnson. That’s it.
We had a Spongebob thread a while ago where somebody linked a long article abut its creator that was really interesting and made me appreciate the show even more. (Maybe the enterprising among us will go search it out.) He really has always enjoyed sea life. I do like the innocent sense the show has about it, especially since I watch it with my children. There’s no cynical crap or much meanspirtedness. (We always snivel along with Spongebob when “the guys down at the Krusty Krab” make fun of him in the “Grandma’s Kisses” episode.) Grandma is voiced by Marion Ross (the mother from Happy Days).
I also love it that Patrick is so stupid and literally lives under a rock. And I just love Plankton, period.
Yes, I realize I watch and think about this show way too much!
My daughter is obsessed with this show so i have to watch it whether I like it or not. I think it has an underlying sweetness to it that makes it very appealing.
My favorite episode: when Squidward goes to live in his own little squid community, comprised entirely of Squidward clones in their own little Tiki heads.
I love the show… The kids and I sing the theme on the way home (I do the pirate voice)
My favorite episode is teh Flying dutchman. When they do the terrifying screams and Patric does his loooloooloooloooloooloo sound with his lips puckered out… Damn that’s a hell of a funny “you’ve got to see it to get it” moment. And of course the episode Where Sponge Bob has such bad breath he kills a cinema audience. (Being fish they start slowly floating to the surface)
I love this show. Are you Ready Kids!!
Are you ready Kids
Count me in as one who doesn’t see the appeal. I’ve seen two episodes, I think, and it was as if I could feel myself forgetting them as I was watching them. I don’t dislike the show, just don’t see what all the fuss is about. It doesn’t strike me as remotely interesting or clever.
As for the Tom Kenny appeal, he does a much better job, IMO, in “The Powerpuff Girls” as the narrator.
heh. Plus the fact that one looks like Aquaman and the other like Popeye.
I like the show because to me, it’s funny in the same way warner brothers cartoons were funny.
I used to not watch it (I don’t watch much TV), but lately we have been tuning in.
I like the episode where he’s trying to get home and he keeps missing the bus.
