SpongeBob Mania is sweeping the nation! It’s OK to admit that you like the show! 20 Million Adults watch it! (and the initial target audience is 2 to 11) It’s Ren-n-Stimpy all over again.
I havn’t seen many episodes, but the ones I have seen, I have laughed out loud the entire time. “The Valentines Day” episode made me cry I was laughing so hard! Just seeing Patrick the Starfish going on a rampage through an underwater amusement park in his hawaiian shorts chasing SpongeBob had me rolling on the ground.
The Ren and Stimpy comparison may be fair. They made a handful of SBSP episodes, then there was a long break as they discovered the show was hot and better make more, and then the quality dipped a bit. Now it is back on track and pretty funny again. The anchovy invasion and Rock Bottom are my favorites (and when Patrick and SB visit Sandy and dry up).
My daughter watched it, and I started too as well. Now we both love it. It’s truly one of the funniest shows on TV right now.
Ah, Señor SquarePants. A wonderful fellow. A very intersting personality. If he wasn’t just a simple cartoon character, I’d put on my scuba gear and visit the little guy. He’s that interesting.
One of my favorite quotes regarding SpongeBob is from his creator, Steven Hillenburg, who once commented that SpongeBob could do anything he wants, but he’s happy being a fry cook.
And hey, it’s the show that reunited Ernest Borgnine and Tim Conway for the first time since McHale’s Navy was canceled (and they’re wonderful as Mermaidman and Barnacleboy-think of a geriatric Batman and Robin).
He’s such a bright fellow. He can do no wrong. We can all learn a lesson from SpongeBob.
(Looking at that article, I see that making SpongeBob is the complete opposite of how most cartoons are made. Animation BEFORE voice-overs? That must be difficult!)
I loved the episode where they are teasing Sandy that she can’t breath underwater without her helmet. Then SpongeBob, Patrick, Squidward(sp?), and Krusty Krab all take Sandy’s dare and go up on dry land.
On dry land the characters are represented as a kitchen sponge, a plastic toy star fish, a little Squidward doll, and a plastic toy crab all attached to popsicle sticks. Then a seagull comes down and attacks them all. Mrs. ShibbOleth and I were rolling on the floor laughing.
Thank god for children so we have an excuse to watch the good tv!
OK, somebody complete the theme song. My kids and I watch this show everyday (and I love it more than they do), but I can’t understand the rest of the lyrics.
Yes, yes, it’s all very funny but they keep forgetting they are suppose to be underwater! They have fires and they tend to fall off things rather than float!
Oh I know what your thinking! You’re even getting ready to type it!
“Blackclaw, it’s just a cartoon!”
Well it’s not I say! Besides catoons should always obey the rules of physics like the Roadrunner does… ok, bad example. Um Tom and Jerry? No, bad physics there too. Um… well I’m sure some cartoon somewhere pays attention to physics dang it!
Stop looking at me like that! Yeah, you think you are so smart! Mutter, mutter, incoherent babbling…
It’s a Nickelodeon product, check your local listings for details (especially since their line up seems to change at random).
It was on MTV at 11 pm for a couple of weeks (Nick and MTV are both part of the same conglomerate, Viacom IIRC) but that seems to have bitten the dust.

One of those things about which I am extremely proud (an snobby of the fact) to have been a part of since the very beginning. I think they knew it was going to be a hit from the beginning, they were really playing it up and mentioned it a LOT. I like the early ones the best. With the drum beats in the background and the like.
Here’s what I want. More exploration of the underground world. We’ve only been to Bikini Bottom, Rock Bottom, somewhere out in the wilderness and then a bit on land.
My favorite is Plankton. What was he again, 1% evil, 99% hot gas?
