Another thread in here prompted me to start this one.
I’ve never watched an episode of Desperate Housewives and don’t ever want to. I have no idea who Terry Hatcher or any of the rest of them are, and couldn’t care less. What are they desperate about anyway?
I’ve never seen Friends. I think it’s about a bunch of 20ish year olds sharing an apartment, and all the goofy situations they get into, yuk, yuk, yuk… I’m 43 and don’t care what a bunch of 20 year olds do personally.
I’ve also never watched Dallas, Falcon Rest, or any of those other 1980s nighttime soaps.
I watched a few episodes of the second Survivor to see what the hype was, yawwwn.
I’m not claiming moral superiority or anything, I just friggin’ hate TV.
The news is good. Larry King is usually good. The odd hockey game. Sometimes CSI, but fer craps sake even that is a stretch. (Like the Crime Scene Investigators are the ones who question suspects and witnesses, huh?)
The only fad shows I watch are Lost, Dr. Phil (if the topic is interesting and dramatic, like annoying bratty children) and Degrassi. The only one I’m desperate to see and will freak out if I don’t is Lost. Most of the time I watch Mythbusters, TLC and Discovery specials (not any of the regular stuff like Trading Spaces or Ballroom Bootcamp) and Ultimate Ten (the supernatural episode owns my life, I never get tired of seeing it).
Never watch Survivor, any reality show for that matter. Never been able to watch friends. Nor the Housewives nor the Sex in the City.
I’ve been curious about Lost, but I’d have to see it from the beginning.
Actually, the only shows I do watch are South Park, Simpsons(Syndicated, the new ones I don’t bother with), Family Guy, American Dad. When Battlestar Galatica and 24 start showing new episodes in a month, I’ll watch those.
If you want to generalize, nobody watches any television show anymore.
The highest rated shows on television get fewer than 30 million viewers. Even if you double that to include all the casual viewers who just tune in once in a while, it’s still under 60,000,000 viewers. There are 300,000,000 million people in the U.S. So 80% of them never watch even the most popular shows on television. And more than 90%, or 95%, or even 99% never watch any of the cult shows that garner attention.
So don’t worry about television. Whatever it is you don’t like, you have the comfort of knowing that the vast majority of people in the country agree with you and never watch it either.
