Anyone else sick of YouTube's Mr Peanut ads?!

How long is this godawful campaign going to go on? You know, the one with him in front of a huge crowd wearing one of those motivational headset mics, asking if they want him to “Get real” and some black woman yells “Yeah!” Are they freakin’ kidding me?! They’re trying to make eating cheap, stupid peanuts seem like some kind of life changing inspirational event?! Hey ad guys! Over the top, insultingly dumb ads like this make me hate whatever product they’re pitching…

:frowning:

Sorry, nothing personal PH…

It’s just one of those commercials that tries to be so hip and wow and down with today’s consumers, and fails miserable on all counts! I guess it’s just me but having to watch even only the first five seconds of it constantly makes me want to scream!

Thank you! I busted out laughing at this!

I have never seen it, and i spend too much time on youtube watching abc videos with my daughter. And the ones i am sick of are the car insurance videos. Its the same two culprits on regular tv, GEICO and PROGRESSIVE.

I swear to god, I’ve never hated a commercial personality as much as I hate Flo. I would give anything to find the person in the advertising agency that came up with Flo, because I’d beat him/her to within an inch of their life, and then shove them in a room with a 24 hour loop of Flo commercials running. I would put the TV behind bulletproof glass, and I would provide them with a gun and one bullet. And I would watch them and see how long it would take them to take their own life.

I’m slightly less hate-filled for that fucking gecko, but only slightly. However, it is on the youtube videos my daughter watches so often (they are the 15 to 30 second variety that you cannot interrupt), that she now asks me if i need car insurance. And then, after a short pause, she says “GEICO! 15 minutes could save you 15% or more in car insurance.” It’s funny, but also beyond annoying. My daughter can use the computer by herself, so who in the world are GEICO and Progressive targeting?

I wonder if anyone out here knows what one ad on YouTube costs, and what the advertising budget of GEICO and PROGRESSIVE are? It has to be incredible. They are like McDonalds. If they cut their ads in half, would we be any less aware of them?

There are ads on Youtube? I don’t think I’ve ever seen one.

I haven’t seen one either.

If you are serious, I’d love to know how you’ve turned them off.

They are all over the place, and they come in three general varieties that I’ve noticed… They have a type that is of variable length, but the viewer can skip out of it within 5 seconds. And 15 and 30 second ads which you are forced to sit through.

YouTube has become much less appealing because of this, but there isn’t much you can do. The more popular the video, the longer the ad. (At least thats the pattern I’ve noticed).

Huh…could be the stuff I watch isn’t all that popular. Classic rock songs, pre-1990 pro wrestling, some Big Bang Theory clips, some random funny vids I see linked on facebook.

I do run Adblock Plus, but dunno if that would block ads on Youtube videos…

Yes, it does.

Adblock

Aha! Even more reason to love that program. Why would anyone surf the net without it, or something similar?

Another vote for Adblock Plus.

I have four YouTube accounts and never see an advert.

It’s either Mr. Peanut or Paul McCartney singing New.

If Mr. Peanut sings that song I’m going to explode.

Thank you all for the adblock tip.

Is there a version that can be run on an ipad?

I have been watching youtube on my ipad, and i know I don’t currently have it.

I’ll do some reaserch, but if anyone knows the answer, I’d be gratedul.

Sorry for the hijack.

Is adblock plus free, or is there a fee? I’d gladly pay a fee not to have Flo and progressive or that damn geico gecko in my face constantly.

Adblock is free but I couldn’t say if it works on the iPad - if you use Firefox or Chrome(ium) it most likely will.

Are you talking about the ads where it looks like he’s channeling Tom Cruise’s character from “Magnolia.”

Check in the App Store. That’s probably the best place to find an adblocker that would be optimized for iPads.

I will note that content creators on places like youtube use ads to support their channels. While you certainly don’t have to, if you like a channel, watching it without using an adblocker is a relatively easy way to help support a channel that provides you with entertainment.

Yeah, I currently keep it turned off for Youtube as most of what I watch are Let’s Players who make a living off of their videos, but it does seem to be getting more and more like why people started using DVRs for TV. If the whole point of all the data collection and crap Google is doing is to advertise better, why the hell are almost none of them even slightly relevent.

As for tablets, I don’t know about the iPad, but AdBlock was removed by Google from the Google Play store because Google doesn’t really want people avoiding their advertising ecosystem. I tend to suspect the Apple app store will be largely the same, but I don’t have one to check.

I only learned Youtube had ads a couple years ago.

I’ve still never seen one. I can’t imagine the point of it if it did have ads.

I don’t use AdBlock, but I haven’t seen any of these Mr. Peanut ads the OP is talking about (and I do watch a fair bit of YouTube.) Maybe whatever information it gleans from my surfing history doesn’t put me in the Mr. Peanut target demographic.
