Hi- We have had a lot of threads about personals going on lately. So I tried the personality test at match.com. I am wondering how much of the results are duplicated from person to person - if it is like a horoscope thing where it is so generic it applies to everyone. It seemed to be doing kind of a Kiersey Bates, Meiers Briggs thing. I’m also wondering if they tell everyone the same statistics. According to them, I am only very similar to 3% of the female population in personality type, that 13% of men would find me very attractive, but only 3% are what I am looking for.
Here is the link. You don’t have to be a member to take the test. It doesn’t take long to take the test - it takes longer to read your results. It is kind of a strange format - the question at the top doesn’t change, the boxes do that you are supposed to click on.
personality test
Just did the test, and apparently I’m similar to 7% of women my age, and 4% of men are very attracted to my personality type. From experience, I should guess that at least 2% are those weird smelly neurotic uggos on the bus.
But the good part is that 41% of the men in this world should find me at least somewhat attractive… Please form a line at the door, I shall be interviewing shortly.
41% should find me attractive? Why the hell can’t I get a date then? Huh?!
5% of people are very similar to me. 20% are somewhat similar to me.
7% of women are very attracted to my personality. 36% are just attracted to my personality. 1% of women are repulsed by my personality (I think this score should be somewhat higher). Others are neutral.
16% of women are exactly my type (actually, I think this is rating is rather high). 41% are exactly, mostly, or somewhat my type.
Sexually, I’m similar to 16% of men (is this a good or bad thing?).
I noticed the test didn’t ask questions like “Are you rich?” or “Do you stink?”
In some ways, I agree with the OP, this is a fairly generic result, and not so personalized as all that. However, I rather like the supply / demand model for the cynicism factor.
First, with you in the starring role of the product, they tell you how the competition (others of your gender) stacks up. I am very similar to 6% of women, somewhat similar to 29%, and very different from 65%.Then, they tell you how your niche market (those of the opposite gender who are very likely to want you) fits into the larger market (all men, or all women). 4% of men will be very attracted to me, 34% will be reasonably attracted to me, 54% won’t care, and 8% will run away screaming.
Then, they flip the equation. Instead of being the product, you are now the consumer. Of all the product our there, who will you like? Who will you hate? Who will you probably not even notice? I already knew there were a few I’d run away from, screaming my fool head off. 45% of men are either mostly or definitely not my type. 25% will fall completely under the radar, and 30% are either mostly or exactly my type. Lucky me. :dubious:
I guess that is what gets me. It sounds so generic, but then they follow it up with these stats that make it seem so much more factual. So far, I see that at least the stats seem to differ from one person to the next - that is a good sign.
Unless I’m seeing this wrong, Sinshine almost had it right. This company, without giving you anything but entertainment, has gained a profile of the person at your e-address (you.) You’ve become part of a targeted spam mailing list that’ll be sold to anyone who wants to pay. :smack:
Data mining is a niche industry inside the slug’s belly. (with no offense meant to Mr. Signorino.)
I don’t know, AskNott, the questions are not the type that marketing people want to know (what do you do when you are stressed, what annoys you about others when they are stressed). The only thing they now know is that you are “on the market”, which they knew from you belonging to match.com anyway. I actually gave a different email address that I never get spam at for the quiz than I did for my match.com account. I’ll see if I get any spam mail to that account.
13% are just like me, 32% are sorta like me.
39% of women are kinda attracted to me with 1% very attracted.
16% are exactly my type, with another 16% being sorta my type.
Sexually, I am similar to 16% of guys.
Hmmm, I’m very similiar to 8% of women but only 1% of men are very attracted to me! No wonder dates have been sparse. Small consolation that 40% are kinda attracted to me and 55% are sorta my type with only 6% fitting my ideal exactly.
I can’t see why they put I like to work with my hands since I don’t. I wonder which questions skewed towards that…
**Whoa, I’m ordinary! Compared to DoperWomen, that is. **
“Your personality profile is similar to a number of women your age. Looking at over 10,000 women who have taken the test, about 34.2% (or 1 in 3 women) have very similar beliefs, values, and habits.”
They add reassuringly:
*“Of course, the way these qualities are expressed in you is what makes you so unique.” *
It seems that dull and ordinary attracts dull:
"Do men like your type?
Notice that 79% of men are generally attracted to your personality type. 19% say they are VERY attracted. With the millions of people on Match.com, that translates into lots of potential matches. "
I’m dull, AND choosy, too!
"*Men with the exact type of personality you prefer are rare gems. Looking at over 10,000 men who have taken this test, only 6% (or 1 in 17 men) have the exact combination of similarities and contrasts in personality you find extremely appealing.
However, there’s a larger group, 25% (or 1 in 4 men), who have most, but not all, of the qualities and habits you like. These subgroups are charted below. *
*About two-thirds (69%) of the men have at least some of the traits you find attractive. *
*But you’d have a negative reaction to 31% (or 1 in 3 men), who have some or many of the characteristics you clearly dislike. *
Ah well, the webpage is messed up anyway. Not only it uses ASP (that means IIS…), but even after I told it I could see that silly logo the webpage thinks it knows better than me and keeps bouncing me back to the intro (“Could you see this logo blah blah”).
Badly written site.
Stupid flash BS on that site. Shows me the page and then tells me i have to asskiss macromedia and install the newer version. hrmph. all the other sites on teh internet work ok. screw that.
7% of women are very similar to me, 22% somewhat similar, and 71% are very different.
Only 4% of men are very attracted to my personality, 37% are somewhat attracted, 55% don’t give a crap and 4% hate me.
12% of men are exactly my type, 24% mostly and 7% somewhat. 52% are mostly not my type and 5% are evil.
So I’ve got 41% of men attracted to me, and 43% of men I’m attracted to. Probably just my luck that those two sections don’t overlap at all. ::grumblegrumble::
5% of women are similar to me. 24% are somewhat similar to me. The rest are not at all like me.
3% of men are very attracted to my personality, 38% are somewhat attracted to my personality, 46% don’t give a damn, and 13% are turned off.
5% of men are my type, 9% are mostly my type, 29% are somewhat my type, and the rest are mostly not or REALLY not my type.
Hmm. Interesting. Not all of their conclusions about me were correct. I came off being a little more flaky than I really am, and a little more “aggreeable” than I really am. It also assumed that I wanted a guy that was just a little too flaky and impulsive. Oh well.
5% of men are similar to me.
20% of men are something like me.
75% of men are very different from me.
3% of women should be very attracted to my personality.
40% of women should be attracted.
39% could care less.
18% of women would rather I just went away.
Out of all that 12% of women are “my type”.
It says my dream girl would be “an enigma”. Since I’ve been described as that before it may actually be pretty close
Men:
13% of men are similar to me.
32% of men are something like me.
55% of men are very different from me.
**I’m not sure what this means. If I were gay, it would mean more, but otherwise, it just means that 55% chance that I am not just like all the other men(for all that’s worth). **
Women:
1% of women should be very attracted to my personality.
39% of women should be attracted.
37% are indifferent.
23% of women don’t like me.
**Now I just have to figure out where these 40% all hang out. **
Type:
5% are exactly my type.
14% are mostly my type.
17% are somewhat my type.
64% are varying degrees of NOT my type.
**Okay, that roughly matches up with the above numbers. **
Geez I soulnd a LOT like HPL
Men:
13% of men are similar to me.
32% of men are something like me.
55% of men are very different from me.
Women:
1% of women should be very attracted to my personality.
39% of women should be attracted.
37% are indifferent.
23% of women don’t like me.
Hey, so ONLY 23% of ALL WOMEN hate me. Those are good numbers. Right? RIGHT?
Type*:
7% are exactly my type.
16% are mostly my type.
19% are somewhat my type.
53% are varying degrees of NOT my type.
5% are definitely NOT my type
However I must preface this withthe fact that both the survey and I are attracted to people not so much my type IE opposites so that 53% is probably a lot of what i’d hit.
I found it to be surprisingly accurate, until near the end where it started contradicting itself a lot (I apparently want a partner who has a lot of opposite qualities from me as well as one who’s very similar to me).
