All I get is the “slight problem with the database” message. I can access the boards, obviously, but I’m not able to search at all. Just me?
Nope, it’s not just you.
I get the same message.
I had the same problem. It’s not affecting anything but searches, as far as I can see. It does affect the search underneath every post, though, in addition to the main one.
Also affecting the “view new posts” dealiebop.
Me too, same problem.
Same here.
I’ve reported the problem, but I suspect there won’t be any action until Monday morning (Chicago time).
Thanks, C K!
While I look forward to being able to search again, I must say that the current speed of the boards is a pleasure!! Pages load instantly. This is awesome!!!
If only there was a way to make it so only I could search… hmmm… and mods and admins too of course, but just us… wow.
Many messageboards I have visited have disabled Searching just because of the absurd hit it takes on the database.
If it wasn’t so useful a feature, I’d recommend that myself.
I wonder how big a problem it would be to disable searching during “peak” times only…
Aw shucks, I guess I have to hold off my daily vanity search
It’s revolutionising how I use the board. Not in a good way.
I thought they actually had disabled it. It seems odd that the rest of the mb works fine.
The board probably needs a reset.
I’ll ask Jerry.
Sorry for your inconvenience. This does underline, however, how intensive searches are to the system and why you should be selective in your use.

I like fast non-searchable board.
Until I have to search, that is.
I agree, it’s been a very good, if inadvertant, test of what exact components might be making the Board suffer most.
Remarkable how many more posts there are when people can post at will.
Jerry wound up having to repair the MySQL database, which had become corrupted.
Not 100% sure what’s going on here, but let’s see if that fixed our problems. (If this post goes through, that’s a good start.)

TubaDiva, I mis-read your post as saying, “The board probably needs a rest,” so I thought, let’s send the hamsters to Hawaii for a vacation!
