I’ve become a fan of The Straits, an Australian show available in the USA on hulu. Anyone else watching?
Like the Sopranos, the plot is about a family of organized criminals, with the tension that causes for each of the members of that family. The setting is a bit different, though; this family does business in Australia and Papua New Guinea.
The cinematography is often stunning, and the plot, by itself, is enough to keep you entertained. There are plenty of intrigues, swindles, murders, and plans that go horribly wrong. The show also explores deeper questions about class, the nature of family, and the obligations inherent in having power.
