The TV show has some controversy around it. Would it be at all relevant to anyone outside Australia? As a dramatic production, is it worth watching?
It’s a television series dealing with gang violence/murder in Melbourne during the past few years. It has caused some controversy because its screening has been banned in Victoria. This is because some of the accused have not yet been tried and there was judicial concern that the fairness of any future trials could be affected if potential jurors watched a dramatisation of the alleged crimes.
I haven’t seen the show itself so I have no idea whether it’s actually any good. It seems to be getting pretty good reviews. It’s probably not very relevant to people outside Australia, but that doesn’t mean it wouldn’t be entertaining to watch.
Well, a crime show is a crime show is a crime show I guess. The Sopranos didn’t mean anything to me but it was a good show.
I’ve seen the first couple of episodes. It’s not that great as a drama. I can’t imagine it appealing to someone without the “wow, this happened in my backyard” effect.
I haven’t watched it (I’m in the state where it’s not allowed to be screened for one thing; I have no interest in it for another) but - and I suspect some of my fellow Aussies may be disgusted with me for this attitude - I find most Australian drama is lousy. Poorly scripted, poorly acted crap made on a shoestring budget starring those actors who haven’t gone overseas because they lack the talent to make it in the American market.
