Anyone else's BS meter going off in response to the pyjama pants girl thread?

Errrmm. Elaine Benis? Please explain.

[This could go on forever! One or the other of us is going to have to start speaking in plain english:)]

Elaine from Seinfeld.

Okay, I agree, plain English from here on out.

Seinfeld?

Of course we can!

But Skewbald has been quite clear about the fact that he does not want his location to be known. I see no reason why that intention should be tampered with.

I’ll state for the record that he is indeed posting from a country where English is not the first language. Also, unlike some, I do see some hints in his language usage that make me think he’s definitely not a native speaker. Maybe I pick them up because I’m not a native speaker myself, who’s to say? But they’re definitely there. Of course, opponents could just as easily state that those minor errors are deliberate. The truth is, we can’t tell for sure.

His English is very good, definitely better than my English was when I was 18. Hell, it’s better than my English is now!
But that doesn’t mean he’s lying about his location, and background.

As far as the credibility of the story itself goes: he’s certainly experiencing other things than the stuff I went through in high school. Then again, if I posted about my marihuana-enduced threesome with two hot blondes when I was seventeen, would you believe me if I had 20 posts to my name?

I think it’s terrible that moderators are giving clues about Skewbald’s location, especially since he has specifically stated that he doesn’t want people finding out details about where he’s from. But I think it’s inappropriate in any case.

And I want to state for the record that if anyone ever wonders about where I’m at and a mod checks on my IP and gives people hints about it without consulting with me, I’ll… I’ll… well, I’ll be upset. Nothing I could do about it, but I wouldn’t like it.

But that’s just me, and I could be wrong.

So, White Lightning, you’re not from Berkeley, CA?

I can’t believe that you guys are trying to discredit skewbalds story! This is the best masturbatory material I have read on the boards in weeks! If you guys keep this skepticism up, I am going to have to get a subscription to a legitimate porn site!

White Lightning re-read my post. I’ve merely told you that Skewbald is posting from a country where English is not the native language. Good luck finding him, Sherlock.

Aha! He’s from Miami!

DAMN, you beat me to it!

Can anyone tell what this guy is saying? I can’t understand a WORD of it, must be a yurpeen, or sumpin.

As for the OP, good story, engaging thread, good character development, better than 3/4 of the movies out there right now, and I don’t care if it’s BS or not. Personally, I think it is.

He has a very nice writing style, a little more descriptive than mine, but that is nothing to raise a BSometer ranking. As far as it being too “good” for someone his age, I wrote as well, perhaps better at 18. A different style, sure, but still good enough to be published nationally as a poet, playwright and writer of short stories.

And this diagnosis comes with what qualifications? Drop us a link to a scan of your masters or doctorate in psychology please. Oh, and a copy of her test results from your examination of her. If you don’t have such a thing, I’d suggest you drop this as a criteria. Come on, 3/4 of the way to “BS” on your meter for this? Just because she was different in her attitudes towards modesty and the woman’s role in the courtship than women you have known personally? Is it so hard to believe there are women out there who are not romantically repressed? I believe there are, I married one.

Please recall, this is NOT a story about an American Boy and an American Girl. Other countries raise their children differently. I don’t find his description of her behavior/attitudes unbelievable.

What you see as careful organization, I believe to be simple recitation of fact. I could relate one of my own encounters from when I was dating and it would “titillate” just like Skewbald’s story. The actual situation was pretty titillating too

This is just your own cynicism. This love story is far from “perfect” in my eyes. It’s very nice, yes, but not “way too perfect”. You want “way too perfect?” Go read The Princess Bride by William Goldman. The most beautiful girl in the world, (yes there is a ranking mentioned in the book version and she is classified as the most beautiful) a boy who loves her for years and patiently waits for her to notice him. This same boy conquers his mind and body in the hope that she might be pleased by a strong body and bright mind. All the while she grows to love him by abusing him and he never gets tired of it, blah, blah, blah. Great story, COMPLETELY UNBELIEVABLE.

I don’t see this as “American.” Dates pre-dated the US, hate to tell you this, but courtship rituals and outings happen in other countries too. Modesty is also worldwide. The speedo issue, is just plain weak. Speedo is international, they grew up in Australia, they have stores all over the Americas, and they are just built a brand new Superstore/Regional HQ in Britian. Yep, that’s Speedo, embarassing men the world over.

Check this link out You can click on various European cities and get a 5-day forecast with high and low temps there. I just checked Amsterdam and Hamburg, both have temps up into the 70s(Fahrenheit) this week. Not exceptionally warm by my own personal standards(I live in Texas) but perfect beachgoing weather in those countries. With a nice sun, that would be great.

Here is another feature of that site where you can click on a country to get Climate info about it. This includes things like average temperatures at various times of year and coastal climate. Norway is a nice one to look at. Apparently they have quite nice weather on the beach at this time of year.

 I don’t see what people have a problem with this for. Hell, I grew up a few miles from a lake and I would see people out riding occasionally. I grew up in a major metropolitan area of 3+ MILLION people. You couldn’t keep a horse within 15 miles of where I lived, but I still saw them sometimes. Why is this such a big deal?

I could get a boat if I wanted one, even on fairly short notice. Flatbed skiffs are quite cheap actually, the only boating around me is lakes. I’m sure they would be even more common if I lived in a coastal area. I also have memories of a “secret” island from some family trips to visit friends in a neighboring state. We took canoes or flatbed skiffs out to it a few times. Just about a mile long, not remarkable in any way, not habitable, not really worth building anything on because it would probably flood if the water level rose much. Small islands like this are quite common, and as a young man I often explored them when I had the opportunity. It’s not like he’s discovered Gilligan’s island here folks, this is a perfectly normal, small island. It’s someone’s property, but it’s just not remarkable enough to be fenced off or for anyone to bother trying to protect from kids who might want to play around on it.

That is your right, but don’t go spouting BS reasons for thinking something is BS.

And from the older thread

We are hoping two young people will find a lasting and loving relationship with each other. That’s it. The only advice I see being given to him seems to be clumsy attempts at “don’t let her get away!” type encouragement. While this could be construed as “boink her! boink her!” I choose not to take that view.

I like hearing about it, it makes me feel less cynical and bitter about the state of the world when I can see things like this still happen. I suggest you turn off your inner Freud and enjoy the peek into what seems to be a lovely relationship.

Steven

Jeez, this is like some kind of formative-relationship issue:

“Well, I want to believe him, but what if I get burned?”
“Sometimes, you just have to trust yourself - better to have enjoyed the post than never to have enjoyed at all”

THIS IS A POST TO A MESSAGE BOARD!! Granted, it is the SDMB, and we regular posters value our sense of belonging to it very much. But the whole structure of the internet in general, and this type of board in particular is to enable this type of thread, fiction or non-fiction. Isn’t there a reason for the SDMB disclaimer regarding real meetings between Dopers at the tops of MPSIMS? Yes - because this type of board is not conducive to full absolute truth - that is part of its appeal.

The only time the truthfulness matters is if we are expected to give something back that costs us. But Skewbald is not:
a) asking for our money
b) asking to meet someplace for something yucky
c) asking for a commitment that costs us anything of deep value - this is not a story of a homeless drug addict playing for emotional commitment

If it is fiction - wow, you write well - the fact that people are angst-ing about the truthfulness of your post, Skewy, is evidence enough that you have been effective. If it is non-fiction - wow, you write well - thanks for sharing.

Heck, thanks for sharing either way.

I just read the op describing the clever, well conversed date, and made syrup for my pancakes of disbelief out of the sap that oozed from the admittedly well written story.

Hi everyone. I’m troy mcclure. I was eighteen once. I was very smart, and funny and clever. but you know what? On a very first date? I did not ask a guy how big his cock was. Here’s more of the conversation:

“you…wannagooutonSaturday?”
“dunno. sure! Sure!”
“cool”
“yeah”
“ok. I’ll see you”

and that was in AP English.

I think it’s a really detailed fantasy story. Don’t believe a word of it.

Stay tuned…next week I’ll be posting my “Hot Date with Six German Nationals and their Humongous Cocks”

It’ll be great.

I told you not to talk about that. Why haven’t you called?

(insert smiley here. winking smiley, that is)

The problem is that playing with people’s emotions (even good ones like Skrewy  has been using) isn’t nice. If it’s fiction, passing it off as pure fact isn’t nice. (And while I was dubious through most of it, the secret island (which, no doubt will have Pirate Treasure or something on it) broke my suspension of disbelief.

Wordman: I don’t know if you were here a while back, but there was a loonie named Honesty Jones or somesuch (I believe she was also BooBoosLittleTigerette or something) who got her jollies about posting about her dying baby. Which, of course, was pure fiction. A LOT of posters got hurt after pouring out their similar experiences, their hurt, etc. While Skrewbald (if his stuff is fiction) isn’t even on the same level or in the same ballpark, it’s still the same basic…“crime”…I guess.

Scylla’s “Ewe Sluts” is obviously fiction. Most of us have embellished a real event to make the story better/more readable. But I see making one up (if that’s what he’s doing) as being totally different.

Fenris

What else is obvious is that Fenris has a huge huge penis.

I saw it before gym.

I was latecomer to the thread and I was thoroughly entertained. I’m usually a pretty hardened cynic but I really enjoyed the interaction between Skewbald and his audience. The ‘aawww’ factor is there for all to see and we’re all getting a kick out of a beautifully observed story.

Questioning the story’s authenticity doesn’t serve any purpose other than to court admiration for the whistleblower’s amazing powers of deduction . The readers aren’t stupid - of course the thought that it might be harmless fiction (fiction, not bullshit) has done more that cross our minds. Do you really think that this is a case of a crowd of wide-eyed innocents failing to pick up on the inconsistencies? It’s just more of a laugh if nobody says anything.

Why don’t you further the cause of science elsewhere - I think some kids need telling that there’s no Santa Claus.

< coy >
T’tell the truth, jarbaby, I didn’t wear underpants 'cause I hoped you’d see it and be impressed with it’s massitude.

Shy Fenris

< less shy >
So now Jarbaby, will you take me to your Secret Island filled with Pirate Treasure where we will have life-affirming adventure, meaningful dialogue and hot, sweaty monkey love?
