Anyone ever been to Rekyjavik, Iceland?

Gonna be flying to London, via a 3 day stopover in Rekyjavik! Why not? Anyway, just wondered if anyone else has ever been there, and if so, anything i should check out!

Amazing coincidence that bj0rn decided to make a comeback on the same day this was posted.

You could try asking him

I don’t know what you can do there, but if you see Bjork, tell her hi for me.

Here’s a tourist site for Reykjavic.

Have fun!

Also an amazing coincidence that I am also flying to London with a three-day stopover in Iceland. When are you leaving, Alzarian? I’m flying out on May 3rd and will be in Iceland the 4th-7th before flying on to London for a week.

Why? As you said, why not?

Gotta love Icelandair’s cheap fares!

Still have about three weeks to mull over my adventure. Fortunately, I hear that the city of Rekyjavik, while small by national capital standards, still has a vibrant night life, especially on weekends when I’ll be there.

Plus, I’ll no doubt take a day trip or two outside the city to see the scenic highlights I can.

And then of course, I’ll bum around the capital, check out the stores, eat Icelandic cooking, buy something trendy to wear! LOL

Staying at the hostel, so I’m hoping to keep my costs down as much as possible, (not all that easy seeing that Rekyjavik is one of the more expensive cities in the world).

And of course, it’ll be heavenly to have so many hours of daylight, even if its overcast much of the time.

Anyway, it’ll be nice to be able to say I’ve been to country a lot of people bypass.

Here’s a previous thread about Iceland.

I stopped over in Reykjavik via Icelandair to Europe awhile back, and enjoyed it quite much. I went on tour South to the geysers and Thingvellur (I’m sure that’s an approximation of the spelling), my only “official” bus tour anywhere, and it was swell.

Language is not a problem: I found it embarrassing that an eleven year old Icelander was absolutely fluent in English. Well, OK, who speaks Old Norse…

Absolutely go to the public thermal swimming pools, listed on Demo’s link. They’re incredible. If I lived there, you’d never pull me out of 'em!

I’d visit Iceland again, post haste, if I had access to an all terrain vehicle and could travel at will. It reminds me a lot of the American Southwest; at first glance barren, but the weird beauty is worth the effort.

The only negative I encountered was staying in a youth hostel, and their schedule closed doors from 9-4. My flight schedule from the US made me have only enough time to drop off my bags, and then have to nod off on the local park benches. So, if you’re going the hostel route, you might want to check out your time of arrival.

Definetly get a sweater. They’re the best in the world!
