I cannot find accurate stuff on what is or is not permitted at this point. ( August 15th, 10:45pm).
I’m flying early Thursday morning and have tossed everything I can think of. Anyone flown in the last few days? How was it? Radically different than usual? Are they still doing a complete second security screening at the gate ?
Flew yesterday. No liquids or gels of any kind allowed - I forgot my suncreen was in my bag and lost it. Solid lipstick was allowed, when it wasn’t a few days ago.
I flew last Friday out of DFW. I decided to take no carry on. I was very early in the morning. It was one of the fastest and easiest check-in and thru-security flights I ever took. Probably due to the earliness, and the small jet I was on. I heard a few passengers bitching about not being able to take a bottle of water, but other than that, nothing noteworthy.
I flew Friday night from San Diego to Las Vegas. There was no line at all we walked right upto the metal detector. Same coming back on Monday. They were not letting any liquids, gels or toothpaste through.
My tax dollars at work. I can see it now. I’m guzzling bottled water in the desperate hopes of hydrating up before I go through the gate and onto the aircraft and some 6 year old child says, " Look Mommy- that man with the gray beard and the hooked nose has a liquid in his hands !!! ", and off I go to the pokey…
I did read the cites in both links very carefully, mindful of the last date each page was updated ( some are from last week, or this past weekend, others are within a day or two of today ).
The cites are important, and I thank you for listing them. I sought first-hand experience in various airports in the USA, which is why I posted this thread.
Just as a side note- I’m a big fan of Purell and the various generic equivalents. I suspect intenstinal distress issues will skyrocket because of these rules. 200 + people on an aircraft, a few lavatories, people’s notoriously poor hygeine… no Purell and airplane food.
" May I have a show of hand of those who had the fish, and does anyone here know how to fly an airplane? "
Just to clarify - it is my belief that the liquids/gels ban in for carry-on baggage only. If you have checked bags, then that stuff is fine there. My wife travelled Saturday, and said that security was pretty quick.
I traveled last Friday. At Indianapolis they searched carry-on baggage and removed some make-up and toothpaste from people’s carry on baggage. In Atlanta they did nothing other than make anouncements not to carry that stuff on.
There was a woman on the Indy to Atlanta flight (less than 2 hours) bitching and moaning about her lack of water/lip gloss and how difficult it was to go without (for an entire 120 minutes, the pain). I was very tempted to slap her.
Oh yes, well understood. I have no carry-on clothing in a suitcase. Nor am I checking any clothing at the ticket counter.
I have a shoulderbag with the laptop, various batteries, cords, chargers, a few magazines, books, breath mints ( in case someone gets in my face, i’ll smell nice ), and a spare cellular telephone. The clothing suitcase was sent by Federal Express yesterday, it awaits my arrival safe and sound.
The spare cellular telephone worries me some, because it might worry some paranoid TSA person. I have to take that risk, however.
I went through that bag the other evening, and got rid of quite the pile of gels and liquids. No Purell, but I bought anti-bacterial wipes in the supermarket. Which they may well confiscate, but it was worth a shot.
I just traveled on Monday morning, and it was basically what everyone else was saying. One thing I thought was odd was that I couldn’t bring on any liquids or stuff like that, even if I had bought it in the airport after the security check in. So if you buy something to drink while you wait for the plane, you have to either finish it or toss it before you ride.
Oh, and the security lines were terrible. Even at 6 in the morning it took an extra half hour.
My experience is that the security lines are worst early in the morning. When people are flying out for business. Later in the mrning things have died down some.
