What is the current policy on flying with liquids?

I haven’t flown since the new restrictions were implemented. Are we still not allowed to fly with liquids in our carry-ons? Toothpaste, hair gel, aftershave, shaving cream and cold medication are what I plan on bringing. Can I put these items in my carry-on?

Tx.

Having just flown, I can answer this one for you. Liquids/gels, etc. that are used as toiletries can be taken in carryon, as long as they can all fit in a single quart-size ziplock bag. They must be in the ziploc and kept separate for inspection.

As far as drinks, you cannot take them thru security, but bottled drinks purchased in the airport shops after the security checkpoint may be taken on the plane.

The restrictions have been lightened a little. You may now take toiletries and OTC medications as carry on items. Containers must be less than 3 oz. in volume and all such items have to be in one zip top bag (quart size).

The UK still has stricter rules for internal and outbound flights, no liquids or gels except baby food (you’ll be forced to taste it) or essential medicine (with the valid paperwork). You may purchase and carry liquids after security. Here’s the page from my local airport as the official one isn’t loading for me.

Note that this applies even if you fly into the UK from somewhere without the restrictions and are changing to an internal flight (i.e. Europe -> London -> Edinburgh ). You’ll be put through internal security in London and the new restrictions will apply (even if your baggage is checked in through to your destination).

In short, you need to know to check-in your toiletries and duty free at the start of your trip otherwise you’ll be forced to chuck 'em in London when you change flights. You might get through if you bought stuff after security and still have the receipt. Oh, and you’re only allowed one carry-on bag, which led to scenes of people stuffing bags into each other and taping bags together last time I went through the area for connecting flights.

Somebody could make a fortune setting up a courier stall in that area and offering to send stuff that people can’t take with them. Yes it is silly, yes I’m glad someone told me at the start of my journey and I didn’t find out in London like a lot of other people.

It only occured to me the other day that I always fly with a couple of pens (as I assume many people do). I guess ink doesn’t count as a liquid or gel …

May as well add, for completeness, that the UK/EU restrictions will be eased off on the 7th Novemeber and would appear to come into line with what’s been described in this thread.

There are regional differences.
Call your airline.
Here all liquids except baby formulas and medicines are still verboten.

Just to update this. The situation changes in the UK depending what’s happening.

There was a security alert at Edinburgh when I flew to London earlier this week and full restrictions came back into play i.e. even products bought after security may not be taken on board as hand baggage.
