Flying on 8/13 Question

My father will be flying from EWR to Las Vegas. He called the airline and was trold he can bring as carry on a dvd or cd player. I’ve heard reports however that even on domestic flights they won’t be allowed.

Can someone tell me as of right now arethe reports I’ve heard wrong and what the airline told him correct?

The airline is correct, for the moment anyway. Here is the current restriction for domestic US travel:

Now, things are a lot stricter if you are travelling to or from the UK, but from EWR to LAS there are no restrictions beyond the one on liquids at the moment.

TSA FAQ on the subject

Forgot to include the answer:

What’s to keep someone from just keeping a small bottle of something in their pocket, I wonder?

They ask you to empty all pockets before you go through the metal dector. They may pat you down, not sure, I’m not flying again until early Sep.

In the UK, I’ve read they’re searching pockets/doing multiple pat-downs. Their guidelines are very explicit, and say “no carrying things.”

What would stop a dedicated terrorist who fake catheter bag or a fake colostomy bag containing explosive from getting on an airplane?

Heck, a real dedicated terrorist could even have a terrorist doctor actually do the surgery to install a colostomy bag.

Medicine is allowed, and presumably any medical devices. But there’s no reason to bring a full colostomy bag; they could just have you empty it before going through security.

Must… resist… temptation…

As long as they dob’t make me taste it.

Or ‘saline’ breast implants.

Put this in your memory bank for future knowledge. There will eventually be a terrorist attack using a General Aviation aircraft. Anyone can charter one for the right price and load anything they want on it, no questions asked. Now a Gulfstream might not cause the mass destruction of a 767, but it can make a mess.
