Or, as Drane Burdick asked one of the Anthonys on cross, “Did you ever euthanize any of your pets with chloroform?”
Others here may know more, but I think improper evidence admitted at trial is not cause to reverse a verdict if …somebody help me with wording here.
Can’t help you there, because AFAIK anything that could prejudice the jury would be cause for a mistrial. It’s not just that the skull was superimposed on Caylee’s face. It’s not just that the tape was superimposed also. It’s that the skullified and duct tape-gagged Caylee was shown in a picture standing next to her smiling mother.
I also heard someone on TV say something about jailhouse footage showing Casey in prison garb and chains and how that could also be considered prejudicial.
This whole thing has been so convoluted, it’s been difficult to follow.
What I’m not understanding is, why this case is getting so much attention? You hear about folks killing their children on the nightly news that never reach this level of media attention and television coverage.
This girl is so beyond nuts I have no idea what she was ever thinking. The stories from defense sound so convoluted I don’t think the kid was ever in the pool. Problem is, I haven’t seen anything as proof of FIRST degree murder. The prosecution really hasn’t given any evidence showing that she planned this murder, or if it was accidental.
On a jury for this case, I’d have to say she’s guilty of everything EXCEPT first degree murder.
I think it’s more likely that Casey was drugging Caylee then neglecting her. I think she killed her by accident, panicked and buried the body.
One thing that is clear to me is that Casey REALLY didn’t want to have a kid around. I mean, wouldn’t we have a slew of friends testifying how much Casey loved Caylee?
Maybe because this case is so different from others?
This isn’t the first time a child went missing and mom said the child was kidnapped, but it’s gotta be the first time a child was missing for a month and mom didn’t report it.
Part of it was the months long search for Caylee while all along the mother was telling inconsistent and downright false information to authorities. Then came the lurid details of stolen checks, chloroform, smell of death, partying and hot-body contests, and general awkward behavior from a mother who claimed her daughter was missing at the time.
I agree that, IMO, the evidence isn’t adequate for 1st degree murder. But the evidence of premeditation was the computer searches for things like “how to make chloroform” and “breaking someone’s neck” etc.
The thing is, in Florida, what you just described IS considered first degree murder. It’s a death that resulted from a premeditated felony. The death itself isn’t required to be premeditated, just the felony.
Maybe he was one of Casey’s one-night-stands and he thinks he might be the baby-daddy?
There’s a discussion about “Flipper” in the Pit, if anyone’s interested.
.
Forgive me if this has been covered, but I just saw that closing arguments are set for this SUNDAY.
Court in session on a sunday, over a holiday weekend, no less.
Is this SOP for all of Florida, or is this a special case?
I can’t ever recall hearing of a court hearing on a sunday, anywhere, anytime—Is this a common occurrence in some jurisdictions, or…
I hear of it now and then; it’s certainly not normal procedure.
However, if I were a member of this sequestered jury, I’d be delighted that the judge is extremely serious about moving this right along. I’d be a lot happier to be on this trial than I would have been on the Simpson trial with Lance “three-and-a-half day workweek” Ito.
Perry got pissed at the attorneys a few times for what he believed was stalling and/or not doing their homework. Each time he increased the hours they worked. One night they held court to 7:30PM. They works most Saturdays at least a half day. He even offered to work them on Memorial Day but they could not make arrangements with the courthouse facilities to have them open for the holiday. He’s moved the trial along at a good pace for the benefit of the sequestered jury who, if you remember, were chosen from a town about 100 miles away from Orlando. I’m sure they are missing their families and their life.
No shit. Having been involved in trial which ran from Monday to Friday, I would have agreed to go all weekend if it meant finishing the thing. The exhausting thing about trial is that you have to be paying attention the entire time. If you break your concentration you miss important things. It’s very draining.
Well not exactly ;but legally, now, can ayone finally answer my question of 6 weeks ago (I didn’t ask it on this website).
Can George now be charged?

Can George now be charged?
[/QUOTE]
IANAL, but I think that would require a police investigation into him as a suspect and to my knowledge he’s never been one. It’s conceivable he could be or the grandmother could be or the meter reader could be if they reopened the case but I don’t think anybody, including the defense team, really believes the shit they were talking about anybody other than Casey being guilty.
I’ll be more interested if George and Cyndi stand by Casey now that she’s acquitted. I wouldn’t be surprised (and almost hope) they say “Bitch is not our daughter”.
Agreed. Divorce iminent. ?
And what about Lee? Wow.
A soap opera writing team couldn’t conceive of this, esp if the back stories are potentially true.
We had a vaca planned for last w/end in Tampa. Spent All day Sunday and Monday morning in bed watching tv and the window !!! lol
I haven’t followed the trial closely enough to have anywhere near the perspective of the jury, but I really don’t feel the prosecution put together a very strong case. Casey is probably one of the least sympathetic defendants I’ve ever seen on a video feed of a court case, and the prosecution was also good about painting all the right negative imagery of her that would tend to make a jury mad at her. Most defendants like that would be convicted on decent evidence, so I think the fact she was acquitted is a sign of the weak nature of the charges against her.
You know what? That’s the most fucked up verdict I’ve ever heard.
Not guilty?
Like fuck.
So where can she possibly live? She has no money. I don’t think her parents will let her live with them. She will have a lot of difficulty finding a job. Is she going to live with her legal team, since they seem to be the only people giddy to be around her?
Interviews, book deals, and maybe even a movie deal.
Eventually Casey will be fine. Short term, she’ll be broke until they get the PR going. Her car is in her parents name, so she doesn’t even own that.
