We need to pull together the geographical core of the SDMB. Anybody know of a good venue? A good date, one that pulls together members from all over the world? Let’s show those other towns how it’s DONE!
I’m definately interested, but I’m geographically and transportationally challenged. The whole family shares one vehicle and we all have obligations and stuff - if it could be kinda NWburb centered and I could hitch a ride if necessary I’d be there. With bells on. Which might or might not be a good thingl
And I know my watering hole, Duffy’s, would be happy to have us…
And meant to add but missed the edit window, I can pick up folks from the train station if necessary, and Dinsdale and Claricuan (damn I know I spelled that wrong) can even play golf!
I would definitely be in favor of a NWChiBurbs Dopefest.
I’m in. Name the time and place and [del]method by which the duel shall be carried out[/del] what I should bring.
I’d say that a more central location might reel in more dopers. Ideally, it would be served by public transportation and major roadways.
…[bias] Maybe like clean, friendly, convienient Jefferson Park. We’re talkin’ a Blueline stop, major CTA bus terminal, Metra commuter rail station, the Edens/Kennedy junction is right there, TriState just a little west, there’s even a convergence of fast moving crooked streets, too (Milwaukee Ave, Elston, Northwest Highway). Yep, JeffPark sure has it all. [/bias]
This Duffy’s in Lincoln Park? I’m not sure how far NW you NWBurb’rs are trying for… Cary seems out, Niles or Des Plaines could work.
Finally, not like I’m a big hitter around here but the weekends of May 3rd and May 17th are particularly impossible for me.
Continuing the Jeff Park theme, there’s Habetler Bowl at Foster and Milwaukee. We did a bowling ChiDope back in '02 IIRC and it was a ton of fun. Nice bar and good prices.
If it’s near public transit I can attend, but I don’t have a car, so anything too far out in the 'burbs is out.
Yeah, it’s super easy to get to via the blue line. Worst case scenario I swing by and pick you up on the way there.
I may be swinging through the area in June or July. If the event occurs then, I’ll make every possible effort to take part.
Chicago…I could possibly make it, since I’ve been needing to go there anyway…public transit availability would be a big plus, I ain’t bringin’ the car…add one long-haired hippie freak to the event, and I might even show up…if any info is being thrown around, anyone is very free to e-mail me through my SN…
I am interested. There was a small one in Feb, but yet another winter storm kept me off the road.
We are done with those now… I think.
Gonna have to get in touch wit cha, so we know which backyard to toss our empties into!
Cool, but I don’t even know how to play golf. I mean I undertand the mechanics and all, but it’s just…beyond me.
I’d really like to do this too so I’ll be watching the thread to see what the details work out to be.
I’m in. It sounds like a good excuse for a decent roadtrip on the motorcycle.
 GAH! I just doomed whatever date you choose to be cold and rainy.
I really can’t do May until like May 20. I have two graduations, a prom, a birthday and something else which I have forgotten in the first 2 weeks in May.
How NW are we talking? Rockford? (some consider that a suburb…).
I might be able to do this one…something along the NW train line sounds good to me. Anywhere between Cary and Jeff Park. Late April to Mid-May?
May weekends are tricky, but I’ll try!
I would like to try attending one finally.
Anyone else feel a little weird telling real life people you’re going to meet “online friends”? No offense intended.
Near the El or Metra would be a big plus!
Since I’m coming from a way’s out, the further out to the NW the better for me, but I’m pretty flexible.
I tell people I’m going to meet “my imaginary friends”.
I propose that once we narrow down a quadrant (“Northwest near a train” seems to be the popular choice at the moment), **MikeG **suggests some spots - he seems to have a fix on all the best restaurants in the tristate area.
