I had a first of it’s kind nightmare last night involving Covid-19. This wasn’t the usual being chased by a monster, falling from a high place, appearing naked in public, getting in a wreck, etc. No, my nightmare involved going out with friends to a festival and drinking while not wearing a mask. The next morning (in the dream) I woke up and realized what I had done and thought to myself (again within the dream), why did I take such a stupid risk, especially with the vaccine so close to being available? That’s when I woke up in real life.
Have any of you all had any actual nightmares featuring Covid-19? This is the thread to share your story.
I don’t think that’s really a “nightmare”, but I did have a COVID-related weird dream just last night. In the dream, I was watching a public health ad or press conference featuring a US Army officer describing her experience as a COVID survivor. She showed a picture of her before getting the disease (a good-looking young woman), and then, almost on the brink of tears, showed us what she looks like today: with really messy hair and a red beard. Her beard was fairly sparse, but the hairs were really long. Before completely waking up I wondered whether the beard was a consequence of COVID itself or of the steroids she was given in hospital.
I think the reason why I had this dream is that my brain somehow merged the Quebec government’s public health ad campaign to incite people to follow COVID-related social distancing and mask wearing rules, featuring COVID survivors describing the ways in which the disease still affects them today even though they are officially cured, with reports of an increasing number of young females identifying as trans men, with some of them later detransitioning and regretting their decision after getting a course of hormones and sometimes undergoing a mastectomy. But it was pretty weird.
While I don’t consider them to rise to the level of ‘nightmare,’ I’ve had probably half a dozen dreams that involve either doing something dumb myself or being in a place where other people are doing dumb things regarding masks, close contact, etc.
I’ve read that these sorts of dreams come from a place where we fear a loss of control. That’s supposedly where those really common dreams involving school come from - having a class to go to and not being able to find the room it’s in, being given a test that will decide your final grade when you had no prior knowledge it was coming that day, being told you’ve missed a major test or didn’t really graduate because you didn’t finish a requirement, etc.
I believe it. I’ll be interested to see if these Covid dreams persist past next year, when hopefully most of the population will have the vax. My school dreams lasted WAY past being in school! Perhaps they were a sub for some other more minor, fleeting issue.
When I stopped drinking 34 years ago, for a long time I had nightmares like this, except for the mask part.
But just this morning I had a nightmare that didn’t involve covid. We were at the Outer Banks house we rent for a week every summer, and heavy rain started, and the house began kind of melting, with big gaping holes opening up and torrents of rain funneling into the house. Ms. Napier declared it was a covid-inspired nightmare.
I dreamt that I got an irate phone call from my pipe major, saying that I’d missed lessons for half a year, and he was cutting me loose from his classes.
I said that the covid restrictions were in place.
“That’s nae matter,” dream-pipey replied.
“But pipey,” i said, “we sit at a table and blow our chanters, for an hour in a small room. That’s a recipe for covid spread!”
"Dinna fash yersel’! " he replied. “Just get yersel’ down here next week!”
I dreamt that Kevin Hart took me to a corona party. When I got there I was held at gun point and patted down for weapons. He told me they were just actors. I then ran off and some dude followed me and asked why I left. I said “its corona season hello?!?!”
One of the weirdest dreams I ever had. Not sure if itd a nightmare since it was just bizarre.
