Welfy’s record-player needle thread reminded me . . . My beloved record player (a 1977 Montgomery Ward’s special) finally gave up the ghost. That sweet chariot has come for to carry it home. It has joined the choir invisible. Etc., etc.
Yes, I know I could check out the Salvation Army or E-bay or some other site . . . But I figure why not ask the Teeming Millions first?
Anyone have a working THREE-speed record player they might want to sell me? I have lots of 78s, 45s and 33s, so a two-speeder is useless to me. Ideally, someday, I want to get an actual working Victor Talking Machine, but they cost a fortune (even the table models w/o the horn).
I was going to tell you to look on ebay or some other auction site, but you already know that. I didn’t want to be rude and thought I’d drop you a note just to say someone read your post
Sorry, I can’t help you out with the machine, though I would suggest you check out the main Salvation Army store on the west side in the 40’s.
But… I do have some old LP’s that could use a good home. I weeded through my records recently and decided to keep only those I knew I’d want some day. The others are in a box under my desk awaiting “disposal.” I hate to just chuck 'em, so I’ll probably cart them to the SA. Unless someone who would appreciate them, like you, would want them – gratis, of course.
There’s a whole bunch of bad pop/rock (no, I didn’t buy them, I inherited them) which you probably wouldn’t be interested in; but I do have a few cast recordings, soundtracks and pop vocalist discs you might find of interest.
BTW, I saw the most amazing “gramophone” booth at the Brimfield flea market this weekend… rows of pristenely restored horned, wind-up phonographs! Took my breath away.
I may be able to help you, I have an aunt who has everything my family ever tried to throw out or give away, and I bet she still has our old three speed record player. It was working fine when we gave it to her.
Are you still looking? If so, let me know and I will see what I can do.
