Anyone have a Steam Oven?

I notice a funky culinary device in a friend’s gourmet kitchen but wasn’t able to garner very much information about it or how it works. After googling, I’ve found the common name is a “Steam Oven”, and basic info is available here. So I would very much like to hear any first hand accounts of how this device is incorporated into your daily culinary routines, and if its worth the significant investment. Also curious how fast it works as compared to a microwave.

cheers.

Perhaps these devices are not nearly as popular as I had guessed.

Never heard of this.

What?? I can’t even imagine how that could work. Steam makes things soggy, not crispy and/or crusty! If cooking time is important (as the linked site boasts), then get a convection oven. If you need to steam something, use a steamer.

Depends on the steam, but i can’t imagine using superheated high-pressure steam would offer any advantages to offset the considerable inconvenience (and danger)!

Too bad it doesn’t brown.
