Anyone heard the "new" Nirvana song?

Apparently, some radio stations began playing “You Know You’re Right” this week. This is the song that Courtney and the surviving band members have been fighting over for the last three years. I heard it a few months ago from an… alternate source (since file sharing is frowned on  ).

In any event, I rather like it. Despite Courtney and her lawyer’s claims, it isn’t all that groundbreaking or anything, it sounds like it could’ve been on “In Utero”. Still, it’s better than most tripe you’d hear nowadays on the radio.

It does make you wonder what Kurt and the boys would be up to now, 10+ years since they hit the big time. Hopefully, they wouldn’t have gone off into a “rap-metal” phase or anything. Somehow, I doubt they would’ve.

I’ve heard it, and I like it. It’s definitely nothing special (especially with all the Nirvana wannabe groups out there today), but it is pretty cool to hear from Kurt again.

I only half-heard it, because I was driving out of range when it came on. I’ll have to listen to it again without static to decide if I like it or not. Frankly, I’m just glad it finally got released. I never could figure out why she had veto power over the remaining members of the band.

Sort of related, I heard the Foo Fighters new song for the first time today, and it took me until it was 3/4ths over before I figured out it was them. See, it sounds ** a lot **like a song called “John Doe” by Twisted Roots, a local band that broke up a couple of years ago; I listened to most of the song hoping they go back together, then realized who it really was. Strange, since Foo Fighters is not a band I’d compare them to…

It’s okay, sounds like Nirvana. (they didn’t say what it was when they played it until afterwards, but i knew from the sound it was the new Nirvana song by instinct).

It’s getting flogged here on our national ‘Yoof’ station (on the first day it hit the airwaves, it was played at least five times), and I’ve heard it quite a few times now. I’d agree it sounds like just another Nirvana song … the only ‘different’ thing about it (speaking subjectively) is that the sound quality of it is so good, which is a contrast to all the horrible sounding bootleg CDs which have provided most of the ‘unreleased Nirvana’ booty over the years.

It brought back some good memories of a decade ago, but it’s not really another ‘Sliver’ or ‘Even In His Youth’ (my two favourite songs of theirs).

The lyrics seem to be a pre-suicide note, the music is typcial Nirvana. If I didn’t know Dave Grohl and how much he genuinely hates C. Love I would say the whole lawsuit thing was created to drum up publicity/money for the song. It’s okay.

I agree it’s good to hear some new Cobain, so little new stuff appeals to me lately. In fact, it’s almost to the point like before Nirvana and grunge hit it big that I can’t even listen to “new rock” stations anymore.
