Anyone heard the new Who single yet?

The Who (Roger & Pete) have just put out an advance single from their forthcoming album “Wire & Glass”, which will be out in October. It’s six short songs from what they’re calling “a mini-opera.” In an odd marketing move, it was released nearly everywhere except the US. I just got mine from Canada.

On first listen, it sounds pretty much like The Who. Except that they sound old. And tired. Pete sounds like a whole other person here - it’s kind of jarring to realize that it’s him singing. They’ve done the unthinkable… put out a song that namechecks a lot of other old artists. Maybe I’m cynical, but that always suggests to me that “we didn’t have a lot of ideas, so here’s a song that mentions people we admire.” Maybe it’s just me.

I wonder if it’ll get any airplay.

If anyone is interested in picking it up, it’s on amazon.

It got sopme airplay a few weeks ago on the local KFOG station.
My views on it was “There’s nothing in that street sounds any different to me” It seems too much like it will be a rehashing of the Tommy story, less messianic and without the pinball maybe.
