I read his books a while back and liked them. I think he was a lot more popular in the 60s. I just visited his spiritual center in Myrtle Beach, SC. It’s really odd that a 500 acre forest and spiritual retreat is smack in the middle of a giant beach resort town.
Some people may have heard of him via Pete Townshend who is a Baba follower.
Yep. There is a center of Meher Baba stuff in Lafayette, CA, near where I live. The followers are a bunch of gentle, nutty, souls. Except for the ones who aren’t gentle.
Townshend put out a few albums on his own around 1970 just for Baba followers. The albums quickly got bootlegged so he put out a commercial album of some of that music, Who Came First. The CD version of Who Came First has more of the Meher Baba songs.
