Er, make that “the small village of Stockholm”.
So here’s the order so far:
The king is dead, and the rule is passed. Here is what he wrote before he died:
The year is 1164. As I lie here on my deathbed, I think over my rule.
After taking Stockholm, I started to get ready to take Oslo, but my council had different plans and asked me to take Stettin. I agreed to do this, and sent some men to take it. They starved the rebels out of Stettin and it was mine.
After some time I was dismayed to find that Stettin had a population of 0% catholics when the pope asked me to start spreading the gospel to that place. I agreed and sent my priests, and they have done a good job turning that once godless place into our most devout province.
In 1134 the Pope called upon all believing nations to fight for the holy land and take Antioch. I wanted to go until I realized that I was too old and might die before I got there. It looks like I was right, because now my crusading army still hasn’t reached Antioch, and it looks like they won’t have the chance because both Poland and Venice have armies of their own there.
The princess of the Holy Roman Empire came to me and threatened to attack unless I payed them. I told the bitch I would not let her threaten me, and had her thrown out. Before long they made good on their threat, and attacked Hamburg. Our army there sallied and easily defeated them there.
It is looking like they may be a threat. They have a lot of men in Frankfurt, just south of Hamburg. I have been training more soldiers to defend against more attacks.
The latter years of my reign have been unfortunately stagnant. I haven’t taken any other regions and have failed to make any allies. At least I have not made any more enemies. Poland looks like a good candidate for either one, as they are no friend of the Holy Roman Empire either but they are also weak enough to take land from. I was planning to scout them out to decide whether to make them friend or foe, but now it looks like my son gets to make that decision.
May he have a long and glorious rule. He has his work cut out for him.
How big are the save files? I have M2:TW but I haven’t look at their size.
As I’m still on dialup, sign me up if the save files are less than 10 megs. (I want to get high speed sometime, perhaps this month.)
(DENMARK? Dont tell me you’re playing on hard!)
The save file was a bit over 2 megs.
It goes in the “saves” folder of the main M2TW folder.
Here’s the current order:
Denmark definitely doesn’t seem to have a great starting position. But it is on medium at least.
Can I join?
(or more appropriately, would you good people mind if I bring the gameplay to a tragic, violent and disastrous end? - hehe, no I’m not THAT bad … I don’t think.)
Sure. This is a long campaign, so we shouldn’t have any problem with everyone getting a turn. And if the campaign ends the next person can always start a new one.
If someone’s having trouble, they can post the situation to this thread and the rest of us can help figure out what that person should do next.
Count me in as well.
I like the Denmark - we should do either them, or maybe Portugal. Both are “underdog” nations with interesting troop mixes.
A suggestion, though: kings can have some pretty long reigns, so maybe we should make sure that the oldest (male) relative is always the heir to the throne. That way, we’ll have a somewhat faster turnover.
Sadly I have only the original M:TW. Unless they’ve seriously rebalanced the game in MTW2, though, Denmark should kick ass and take names. It took me a while to realize how good Vikings are (in cost/benefit terms) but I’ve not made that mistake since.
Is there a way to set the heir? I know there was in the older games, but I didn’t see the option in this one.
Malacandra, go ahead and try to start a campaign for M1TW if you want. You can use this thread or start another. I might consider joining if you need more people.
Well, it’s harder to gain buttloads of money from ports – well, you can, but adding more spreadout warship fleets doesnt add craploads of cash like it did in M:TW.
But you still have good units and free access to Scandinavia. Or at least it looks that way: haven’t done a campaign as them in M2 yet (don’t tell the rest of them )
I agree with Alessan about the long reigns, but what would we be doing, ordering futile assaults against the Germans to get our younger sons killed off? Unless I’m missing something?
I think he’s just saying, always make sure the throne passes to the oldest person possible, so you don’t get 18 year old monarches who live for another seventy years.
But personally, I kind of like the idea of it being a crap-shoot how long you get to play. Sometimes you get the kid who rules for the better part of a century, sometimes you get the octogenarian who barely makes it out of the coronation ceremony before keeling over. There are few enough players involved that we’ll all get several turns, so it should all even out in the end.
Now I feel even more like I’m missing out on something. How do you do this, short of purposely killing off people?
I haven’t tried it in MTW2, but in Rome, you could select your heir from the family tree screen. The former heir would get a negative trait (I think the opposite of what being the heir gives you) but you didn’t have to off him to take him out of succession.
It’s not having it. I loaded the saved game, the progress bar comes up, and then it takes me back to the main menu. I reinstalled the latest patch and it did the same thing. Advice? Start over?
I say Portugal is next. We’d get gunpowder!
Aftre I get home from working out tonight, I’ll start up a Denmark campaign to cover the worst-case scenario.
Shit. I wonder if it has something to do with that mod I use.
Either everyone could install it, or I could uninstall it and we could start over.
You want I should start us off again? What is the mod that you use?
For the record, I’ve got the patch installed on mine. That probably won’t make a difference, though.
The mod I use is this one, the one that gives the characters more historical names.
I thought it might work because my save files work if I don’t use the .bat for it, but it changes some of the data files so that might be a problem.
The most recent patch came out last week I think. You have that one?
I’d kind of like to start us off again. I’ve got lots of free time, so it wouldn’t take long.
