The latest patch (or at least the one I’m using), the file name is MIITW_UPDATE2_EFIGS_RC_Final. I downloaded it from Fileplanet. I didn’t have any trouble updating so I’m not sure what problem you are having. I guess you could always re-install the game from scratch and they try and patch.
What problem are you running into? What is your current patch level? Do you have any mods at all currently installed, or have you tried to tweak the combat databases?
Well, we WOULD have some decent military units if we could afford to upgrade at least one of our cities and castles with the best stuff. And to be honest, we do actually have some nice dismounted knight type units, some decent axemen units and norse archers and such.
Like in Rome, upgrades are more based on the size of your population than on a specific period in history…the exception being gunpowder. In our game, gunpowder is available but we haven’t had the cash to take full advantage of it. I REALLY like the musketteer units and I think they are available to Denmark (have to admit I haven’t played Denmark yet myself until now)…if not, then the regular matchlock units will be. Either way, I like to have at least 5 of those units in any stack…their volleys can make or break a battle.
How are the multi-use heavy infantry/light archer units? I know the stats for the Danish version I just don’t know how well they work in battle. I wouldn’t mind a whole army of them with Russia, cause they’re so freakin versitile despite their large cost.
I’m trying to go from 1.0 to 1.1, as I thought we’d agreed to not download the 1.2 patch for this game. No mods, I did a re-install last night trying to get it to work, but no joy. After downloading the patch, I unpack it into a temp folder, and get a bunch of different files, plus a readme. The readme says to put two of the files into a folder called /tools/unpacker, run one of them, and it should put all the other files where they’re supposed to go. When I run the file, I get a DOS window listing about 30,000 different files being upgraded, which takes about fifteen to twenty minutes to finish running. It appears to install succesfully, but when I launch the game and go to the options screen, it still says I’m on version 1.0, and it won’t load the save file xtisme sent me.
It sounds like you got a weird installer. I didn’t have to move any files around, I only needed to click the .exe . I dunno if that would be the cause of your problems though. You could try getting the patch from elsewhere if you think it could help.
You could also try uninstalling and deleting the folder the game is in (after backing up your saves, of course). I had to do that. The installer doesn’t seem to overwrite any of the files if they’re there.
I don’t normally, but I followed your instructions on how to unlock them, and it seemed to work fine. I could start a new game as Denmark, but it wouldn’t read the save file. When I try to load it, I get the loading screen, but when the progress bar completes, it just dumps me back to the main menu.
I’m pretty sure the problem is that I can’t patch up to the next version, not something wrong with the save file itself. To test this, I’ll forward the file I have to the next person on the list when I get home. I don’t want to hold up the whole game while I try to figure out what I’m doing wrong.
I’m certainly willing to re-send it if needed. I still have the file saved off…but as Miller says, it doesn’t sound like thats the problem. My guess is that whatever he’s using for the patch isn’t the same as what I used…mine was like Talon’s, basically just download (its a monster btw…600+ meg) and then click the exe and get out of the way.
Not bad. The peasant archers are obviously trash, but the crossbow men and Norse Archers are actually decent. I usually rely pretty heavily on the crossbows in this stage of the game…then switch over to nearly all gunpowder forces when its available. Unfortunately for us, the better cannon units aren’t available yet…we have a serious research lag atm.
Can someone clarify if we’re using the 1.1 patch or the 1.2 patch? I thought we were supposed to avoid the 1.2 patch for those of us whose internet can’t handle downloading such a large file.
Yeah, it’s 1.1 . That one’s not the 600 meg one, it’s much smaller.
Wait. xtisme, you were using the large one? I think that’s why it’s not working. It’s a 1.2 save, so it might not be compatible with 1.1 . They design the patches so saves are upwards compatible, but not downwards I think.
Either everyone will have to upgrade to 1.2 or xtisme will have to downgrade to 1.1 and take his turn again.
Ludovic, perhaps I could break up the 1.2 patch into smaller parts and send it to you a bit at a time along with the program to put the pieces back together.
Yes, I have the really big upgrade. I was able to load and play the file sent to me with no problem, but it might be that no one else can now use it. If so, then you’ll have to send Miller the original game you sent me and then just bypass me I guess.
Okay, then again, for reference, if you’re in the queue for the campaign and you have 1.2 installed, uninstall the program, then reinstall the program. Use the link provided for 1.1.
Does anyone know a way to find out what version you have installed?
Just as an FYI, the big honkin patch solved a bunch of problems I was having with the game. The biggest one I can think of off the top of my head was the that any time I have elephants sieging my cities the game would blow out to desktop halfway through the game.
Also, they tweeked some of the range tables I understand and fixed a bunch of other bugs. For my part I’m not planning on switching back either.
Miller, give us a periodic update on how the game is going if you would. I think this will keep us all interested in the game. Maybe expand that to ask for advice from your counsel of lords or whatever.
