I loved the books, and will reserve judgement on the movie until I’ve seen it. Thank you GuanoLad for those links. Anxiously awaiting another Tolkein fix, purplebear sits patiently by.

That’s my name, not a description. I am neither purple nor a bear. Okay, so I’m purple.<a true Wally original!>

that was one great trailer

My reaction still holds. . . but I’ll probably read the reviews and revise it then.

I don’t have an evil side. Just a really, really apathetic one.

It’s a great album, you can “hear” the fog on the barrow-downs. I wish it would come out on CD. My turntable is broken.

::YAWN:: Wake me when they make a movie adaptation of Bored of the Rings.

Oh, AKA…:::looks down sheepishly:::…I don’t know how to post links.

Seriously, I don’t. I knew when I said that that I was doing a disservice by not posting the link. If someone could, pretty please, tell me how to post a link, I’ll do it ASAP.

“His eyes are as green as a fresh-pickled toad,
His hair is as dark as a blackboard,
I wish he was mine, he’s really divine,
The hero who conquered the Dark Lord.”

Mm-HMM!

Also, RTA, I would calm down as far as Arwen’s role being embellished. If the shot of her “armed and armored” that you saw was from the trailer that I saw, I should remind you that they are doing the principal photography for all three films at once. That is, they’re doing all the Rivendell scenes, from all three books, and then moving on to the Entwash, and so on. There’s so much CGI to add that the live action is only about 40% of the production. So the shot that you saw was probably from King, not Helm’s Deep from Towers.
And whether anyone agrees or not, the hobbits look uncannily accurate.

It is out on CD, I just made a copy of it for my little brother (for his car CD-player). I’m not partial to this “progressive” music, but here’s a link to Amazon if you’re interested.

For once you must try to face the facts: Mankind is kept alive by bestial acts.

Thirdwarning, I recently got a CD of it (to my joy - my turntable hasn’t worked in yonks either). I think I bought it in the States, but I don’t have the foggiest where.

However, it’s released by One Way /Silence Records, PO Box 6429 Albany NY 12206 and the catalogue number seems to be OW33654.
Hope that helps.

Not in the trailer, elsewhere. And it was at Helm’s Deep (i.e. during the filming of Helm’s Deep, on the set of Helm’s Deep). But she has absolutely no business swinging a sword anywhere in ROTK either - is that not so? … If they make her a member of the Company of the Ring I am going to puke.

BTW They are doing all of the outdoors filming first, then moving inside massive sound stages for all of the interior shots.

I hope they do a better job than they did with the Hobbit in '78…

Some people say that cats are sneaky, evil, and cruel. True, and they have many other fine qualities as well.

I hope this works…

DOH!

I dunno, the impression that I get from the ads, etc, is that this version is going to be as good as a movie of LotR can possibly be, but that it still won’t be good enough. As to Arwen, I noticed that Eowyn isn’t on the cast lists… I smell a streamlining. And they did this because there were too FEW female characters?

I really hope they don’t try to streamline Arwen into Eowyn’s role. Eowyn is one of my favorite characters. Her relationship with Eomer and Theoden is very important with regards to Wormtongues backstory (His rise and Eomer’s fall, and the reversal) as well as her slaying of the witchking and relationship with Faramir.

Removing Eowyn is one of those things that will utterly ruin the movie to me, I have to say. I can understand and forgive the replacement of Glorifindil with Arwen at the crossing of the ford (One of the rumors) but the other is beyond the pale if it happens.

Not really (and that is the sort of thing they assuredly WILL cut), but she is necessary to kill the Witch-King etc. I’m pretty sure Eowyn HAS been cast.
It’s my understanding they are definitely cutting all of the Tom Bombadil - Barrow Downs stuff and supposedly a lot of the Birthday Party scene too.

I don’t know LotR that well, a lot of the names get me confused and I can’t tell one person from another from them. But I believe originally they were hoping to cast Uma Thurman in the role of Eowyn, but she declined. Rest assured that, if the role hasn’t been cast yet, it’s because her scenes are yet to be scheduled for filming. There’s another 8 months of shooting to go, remember.
