It’s not a reminder program, but I use one called TurboNote. It’s a Post-It style program that lets you leave sticky notes on your desktop. You can set alarms on them, IIRC. There’s an ad-supported freeware version and an upgraded pay version. Both should be available on http://www.download.com.
In general, that link and http://www.tucows.com should have a whole section devoted to reminder programs.
I use ICQ, which I have on my computer anyway…
