Iron as in the device used to remove wrinkles from clothes or the element iron?
The device used to remove wrinkles
The prior tenant must have left the iron on the floor
This site has some good rug-cleaning tips. It suggests brushing the marks from the pile with a clothes brush or coin and then spot-cleaning. I’ve also heard that rubbing a cut onion over scorch marks makes them fade, but I’ve never tried it.
I have an iron mark on my rug…more of a melted area in the vague gothic iron shape. I, having failed in all my attempts to get rid of it, openly embrace the mark and have named it “Ted.” I even tried yelling at it; relieves mild stress but that’s about it.
Cut the scorched piece out. Find a hidden place such as a closet or under a bed and cut a piece the same size out. Seam the new piece in the scorched pieces place. Make sure the nap is running in the same direction.
I realize you are not the original owner of this carpet but, things like this happening are a good reason to save carpet scraps from the installation.
I know someone who burnt their (cheap) carpet with an iron, and proceeded to deliberately burn it more, to make a repeating pattern of 'v’s across the entire room.
Probably not the best idea though.
