Thanks for your answer! Do you speak Mongolian? Can you tell us why the flag would say “White Long, Green Long”, etc? That doesn’t mean anything in English.

Also, can you write those phrases out so we can see what they’re supposed to look like without the fancy calligraphy on the flags?

May I suggest that the thread title be changed to “Anyone know how to read the writing in Mandarin’s logo in Iron Man 3?”

I’d’ve suggested this before, but I thought the thread was dead, so no need.

The script is Traditional Mongolian script. I immediately recognized it as I used to study it in my elementary school. You can install it in Windows and try it out for yourself. You can image google Mongolian script to find the same kind of writing. Very few Mongolians themselves can read and understand the language.

As far as the meaning, they are the names of ancient Mongolian clan names before Chingis Khan united them under one nation named “Mongol”. Much like the old testament is an ancient book about a history of the Jewish people, there is an ancient book about Mongolian history called The Secret Book of the Mongols. These clans are mentioned there.

The words and the translations I can understand are
khar-ord - black-clan
khongirad
khokh-ord - blue-clan
olkhonud
merged - snipers
ulan-ord - red-clan
nogai-ord
jalair
arulad
tsagan-ord - white-clan

I only say these under what I can recall. Some facts stated here are not verified.

Interesting. How do you convert the romanization into traditional script?

Mongolians in China can read and understand the writing:

I just checked some of my money here (I’m in China). Yep, the Mongolian script is on the money, too.

Nitpick: so far as I know, there is no “Mandarin” script. Mandarin, Cantonese, and all other Chinese languages are all written in Chinese script.

Now, you know.

When writing colloquially, there are some differences in writing of the different dialects (actually, languages; however, that’s yet another linguistic debate). “Standard Chinese” is also known as “Mandarin”.

Haha that is early Mongolian tribes names in early Mongolian script. Some names are written as incorrect also some names are Mongolian but no tribes were called themselves Khar Ord. That image is copied from a cheap souvenir for tourists.
Hahaha how poor is HOLLYWOOD and their watchers.

Actually, without saying too much lest I spoil the movie, that’s perfectly appropriate for how it’s used.

I…take it you have not seen the movie.

I was amazed at how gut-bustingly hilarious this entire thread is once you watch the movie…

What is it with this thread and its ability to attract new posters? They’re all different people, right?

those were just clan names that were in X century in mongolia. Actually in mongolia almost everybody can read those. We learn that in elementary school.

Ok, seriously? 5 new posters, who all post a single post here then vanish? Is this AIM?

Looks like this topic is the number 1 Google result for “mandarin logo writing.”

I think your nitpick is misdirected. Nobody referred to Mandarin script, as far as I can tell.

Its Traditional Mongolian Script and they mean impostor, damage ,snipers ,sacramental ,crimson ,black clan , green clan ,red clan ,D/blue clan , white clan!!Now then know it!! Cows!

Yea they dont even know what is traditional mongolian script and dont compare our language with stupid chinese thingy
