Anyone know some songs about pregnancy?

I had to have my own child before I realized it was about a child, but “The Meeting” by Anderson, Buford, Wakeman and Howe (The group YES less one person) is absolutely beautiful - none of this dark stuff. “It’s something that I feel, something that I feel inside…I will be your servant, child.”

“When You dream” by Barenaked Ladies off the album Stunt is actually also a pretty song (and right up the alley of dopers, since it is a father wondering what newborns think and dream, what language their dreams are in, etc.) another good one for newborns, though, not pregnancy…

There is also a song by a Christian rock singer whose name eludes me at the moment with some beautiful lyrics - “How can I miss someone I haven’t met yet?” but that song is actually about trying to become pregnant and not having achieved it yet. I think the song is called “Room down the Hall” or something like that.

I actually made a CD with such songs on it that I played for my son every night softly (put the headphones on my tummy) beginning when I knew his ears were developed enough. He is two now and those songs still put him to sleep out almost immediately. I swear it helped calm him in the delivery room (played it after he was out, not during.)

Ah yes, Danny’s Song never failed to make me misty when I was pregnant. Gorgeous song. I believe it was on a Loggins and Messina album - Sittin’ In perhaps.

Not to be confused with the song of the same name by Nine Inch Nails although that too could definitely lead to pregnancy as well.

The preceeding post was brought to you by The Department of Redundancy Department.

Thank You.

There’s a joke song on the Dr. Demento album Holidays in Dementia called “It’s So Chic to Be Pregnant at Christmas”. I listened to that I dunno how many times over the holidays.

Robin, who is at 25 weeks

Wow, thanks everyone,
Now I just need to get myself off the couch and into the CD store. :slight_smile:

Just have to suggest one more: “Me in Honey” by REM.

::leaves discreetly::

You don’t have to get off the couch to a CD store - just go to Amazon or something like that, listen to song samples for the ones we mentioned, and order the ones you like. :slight_smile: Better than hit or miss at the store. They aren’t going to have a lot of the more obscure stuff we recommended at a regular store, anyhow.

…And I can’t believe no one has yet mentioned Natalie Merchant’s “Wonder.” More about birth than pregnancy, granted, but a great song for your purpose.

I love REM’s Me in Honey – “There’s a fly in the honey, and baby’s got a baby with me.”

James has a song called GoldMother that’s about birth. The lyrics are rather bizarre and beatnik-like nonsensical, though. It’s better heard than read, and it’s not really a song one can warble in the shower.

I’d have to agree with Jophiel’s recommendation of Eat for Two by 10,000 Maniacs. It is not a happy song, but GOOD GOD is it beautiful. Lots of memories.
