Anyone listening to Howard Stern this morning?

I’m not a fan, but I’m interested in what changes have been made. I assume it will be even raunchier than before, but in addition to that, what’s it like? Is there a vast change in the tone of the program?

I know many people signed on to satellite radio simply because Howard is now there. Are you getting your money’s worth?

I’ve had Sirius for the past year and a half. I listened to Stern during my 35 minute drive to work. He’s trying to keep the language clean for the most part, but the content itself is all Stern. It’s a fun listen.

George Takei is part of the crew now! He’s a great addition, but his laughter drowns out the chuckling of Robin Quivers. It’s my only peeve about the show so far.

Evil David Letterman having phone sex with the Tissue Time girl - what’s her name – was absolutely hilarious. Not safe for driving.

The audio sdoesn’t sound quite as compressed as FM. Sure, the signal is compressed, but the audio sounds a bit more natural.

Do they swear at all? He’s always struck me as the kind of guy that spent the last 20 years stifling “Fucks” and “Shits” with every fiber of his being.

A little bit, but it’s not gratuitous. Howard scolded Artie a while ago for saying “fuck” a bit too much - “Do you really have to use the f-word?” The material is definitely a bit more adult, but again it’s not gratuitously dirty.

I saw about 10 minutes of Howard being interviewed by Larry King last night. He said that he told the writing staff to not use profanity, because he felt that it would be used to cover up the lack of comedy in a bit. He told them that sometimes the profane language can be used for humorous purposes, but only if they’re sure that it’s important to the comedy.

I’m listening. I do sort of wish that he hadn’t been talking about the contents of his condom while I was chatting with my boss, but that’s my problem. I heard him say it’s not REALLY George Takai. It’s a lot of talking to the press and stuff. I adore my Sirius radio and I adore Howard so I’m pleased with the whole deal.

Boy! That takes massive balls to listen to Howard at work!

I had no idea you were so intimately familiar with my work environment.

I would think that anything that drowns out Robin Quivers would be a positive.

She’s about the only part of the show that doesn’t make me nervous.

So what were the confessions that they weren’t allowed to do on their last day on terrestrial radio?

I think that’s George Takei Jr, AKA Fred.

According to this article it is the real George. He was hired as an announcer and will be doing pretaped stuff for the show.

I listened for a bit while I was running errands. I think it sounded better than FM as mentioned above; I giggled with delight when I found out that George Takei is going to be around regularly. I also didn’t hear anything more raunchy than normal - however, today was a special case in that they had a press conference.

You can read the list of “revelations” on Stern’s site

I guess it really his George. I am delighted too. They used to say on the show that he refused be on because they were too hard on him, but I guess that it was really a set up for him to be on Sirius. I was giggling away in my car at the replay of the famous “Ricardo Montalban calls George Takai” phony phone call.

It is the real George Takei, and the guy is surprisingly funny. He honestly answered questions about his first gay experience and does he or does he not recieve anal and/or swallow.

During the news, Robin was talking about Arial Sharon’s massive stroke, and giving the gory details, and George Takei piped in with, “I’m Gay!”

It was freakin’ hilarious.

It may be hard to believe, but USA Today wrote up a full recap:

Oh, my!

Arrgh! I went and asked for a satellite radio for xmas, finally got it on Saturday, signed up and paid for a year … and had business meetings all day today (normally, I work from home way out in the boondocks, never seeing another soul). I missed the whole damn thing (and was unable to get reception in the house I’m visiting … I think it might be TOO rude to go sit in the driveway, where I get reception, until 2 AM). Better luck tomorrow, as I drive home. My wife is going to hate me after she sits through that whole trip.

Sorry. Pent up after 2 years of listening to crappy radio reception from Albany, frequently interrupted by light aircraft radio conversations.
